http://www.local10.com/money/9145308/detail.htmlFrom: Associated Press Group Wants Ford To Strip Gay Rights From Employees Family Group Criticizes Automaker For Gay-Friendly Policies
POSTED: 9:37 am EDT May 2, 2006
FERNDALE, Mich. -- A conservative Christian group leading a boycott of Ford Motor Co. over its gay-friendly policies has criticized the automaker's links to a June event in suburban Detroit.
The Motor City Pride event in Ferndale, Mich., next month features a same-sex commitment ceremony.
Ford and the event's sponsors said that the company is sponsoring a family activity area, not the commitment ceremony.
The Tupelo, Miss.,-based American Family Association long has criticized Ford for advertising in gay media, sponsoring gay events and gay-friendly personnel policies.
The association is supporting a shareholder's proposal at Ford's May 11 annual meeting that would strip gay rights provisions from the company's equal employment policy.
What the hell is wrong with the American Family Association? What could possibly be "Christian" about actively trying to take away protections from gay and lesbian workers being fired soley for being gay? Why must they try to impose their world view on everyone else? It is sickening, and I hope the measure does not pass.

It won't pass. Being labeled as "the car that hates gay people" would gut Ford, and the shareholders know it.
It doesn't even look like it's been put into a "measure". A shareholder could be some KKK member who owns 500 shares that he got from his pappy when he died. This looks like an article making a bunch of loud bigots sound like they're more of a story than they are.

Well the AFA is making some wild claims about their boycott on their site: http://www.afa.net/petitions/motorcityprideevent.htmI for the life of me cannot understand why any people would put so much effort into interfering in the lives of other people. It is nauseating, and there is not anything remotely Christian or "family" about it.

Extra large American vehiciles that are rusting on the showroom floor. They have "retro" features to include their gas milliage! You know the more coverage you give these groups means the more you "enpower" these groups! I do support their not buying Fords but not for their reasons!

From: ReallyRick Metropolitan The fact that Cristiano (who I hear is heterosexual) has always been so "pro-gay rights" and so gay friendly, I have always thought that was just soooo Thank you Rick I am that way for several reasons. First of all, I am very comfortable in my own sexuality and I have a strong belief in celebrating the differences in people. Also, I suppose living in Miami Beach has certainly helped me to become very tolerant of a wide range of people. When I worked in South Beach, you practically had to come out if you were straight anyway. Most importantly though, I have a 19 year old cousin who is like a little brother to me who is gay, and I've watched the struggles he has gone through and how he has been treated, and it makes me both sad and angry - especially the amount of self-loathing he has over something he did not even choose to be when he should be proud of who he is (considering he got a full scholarship to Stanford and is one of the nicest and most intelligent people I have ever met). Seeing his life through his experiences has made me want to be an example in my own life of being the change I want to see in the world. I think all of these anti-gay crusaders seem to forget the humanity of the people they are attacking. I do feel the same way about other topics as well, this is just personal to me because of my connection to my cousin, and also because of the many very cool gay friends I have made in the past 29 years of my life Also, I just believe that we should stay the fuck out of each other's lives and stop trying to control what other people do, think, or feel. I may not always agree with how someone is living their life, but who am i to tell them what they can or cannot do. So often, these stupid groups are always trying to control people - what we can watch, what we can think, who we can love, what we can do - and the more people fight back against that, the better society will be.

I note that Christiano felt the need to slap the Conservative and Christian labels on this topic rather than limiting it to the group in question.
I'm both Conservative and Christian and I do not support this group's efforts.
If you disagree with Ford's policies don't buy a Ford and encourage your friends and associates not to. These guys are one step away from Fred Phelps land.

I'm both Conservative and Christian and I do not support this group's efforts. I think he felt the need because this group is well-known to be, um, you know....conservative, and Christian. Using those terms to describe a person or group does not necessarily assume that everyone who is Christian or conservative thinks that exact same way. Most of us recognize that a label is not universal, that all "conservatives" don't think alike any more than all "moderates" or "liberals" do. Just because they're conservative doesn't mean you agree with them, and you being conservative and disagreeing with them doesn't preclude them from being conservative. Let's use a little logic here, shall we?
