"5:30pm SLT - Grid Still Down to Repair Sim Crashing Issues With 1.11.0 Release Sorry to sound like a broken record here, but as I'm sure you've noticed the grid is still down. As previously mentioned, we're working on getting the fix verified. Progress is being made, and we'll have real news soon, hopefully! On behalf of many very tired Lindens: thank you for your patience and understanding. We know this has been a great inconvenience and are working as fast as we can to get things back in shape. They don't really get enough credit, do they? They put a ton into this game; it's a miracle of programming... and people only ever seem to notice the bugs. Hehe.

Programing is just as much an art as it is a science. No matter how much testing and scrutinizing you put into it before hand, there are always those niggly little things that get missed. The Lindens have some very talented people working very hard to get things up and running right now, so lets give them a break.
I wonder how many lines of code it takes to run sl?

Considering how much memory it uses, and the detail that goes into it, probably thousands... maybe even millions. No matter if it was worked on for millenia, it would be impossible to get it absolutely perfect to please everyone, ne?

SL is worth the wait when it needs fixing
07-19-2006 18:10
Just like every one else, I also dislike waiting to go online and feed my adiction. SL is a well made and run simulation. If waiting will make it more egonomic and fun, then I am ok with that.
There should be little if no complaining by the residents. Many online games never improve as much as SL has. Sl just keeps evolving and improving.
Kudos to the Linden team for the good work, but do keep the coffee breaks down to minimum.

OMG i'm happy to finally find a post with people who make sense....SL is a massive collection of programing that most work just so for everything to go right and some people don't seem to understand that it's quit complex LL does a great job with it...every patch fixes some bugs and introduces new features

While its a notable feat to program both the client and server side code, its nothing compared to far more complex programs which people rely on a daily basis to earn a living. And some of those sell for far less.

I think the Lindens do a fabulous job. Especially as they have an understanding of computers and programming I could only ever dream of achieving. I cant critisize them in any way, lets face it, they do their best to keep the game running and all us peeps happy. Yes the wait is frustrating because I have no social life, and TV is crap, so there is nothing for me to do during the hours it is down (I could work but that would be breaking the habit of a lifetime LOL)

Paying for it is entirely your choice, and besides, this is a game, not anything else. YOU try building a game like this and keeping it operational.

hehe whew - well, as soon as i got in, i went back to work arranging trees and putting in a pond on my firstland... tore off the 'debug' menu so i could toggle the trees on and off real quick, and the 'set sun position' one too to check out the layout at sunrise/sunset... and not a crash once... (though i don't think anyone else at all showed up in the whole sim last night!)
-great- new toys.
still some jitter to the new display mechanisms, even though i had zoomable at 1.00 and the other option turned off, but not nearly as much as there was in preview... maybe only a mac thing, i dunno... i'll send in a report later; i almost did off the bat last night, but wanted to wait to see if more buggies shook out of the woodworks...
