Happy Veterans Day

http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=56522

WASHINGTON, Nov. 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A proposal to end the long-standing practice of veterans groups addressing a joint session of the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees is an insult to all who have fought, sacrificed and died to defend the Constitution, according to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). And in a strongly worded letter to House Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Steve Buyer (R-Ind.), the DAV has urged him to continue the joint hearings as an invaluable tool in formulating public policy toward America's veterans.

Chairman Buyer recently announced that veterans service organizations will no longer have the opportunity to present testimony before a joint hearing of the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees.

"The tradition of legislative presentations by veterans service organizations dates back to at least the 1950s. And the timing of this announcement -- just before Veterans Day -- could not have been worse," said DAV National Commander Paul W. Jackson.

I could not find anywhere in the article that defines WHY they are trying to eliminate the voice of our veterans in the joint hearings? Have you seen any further articles on this?

Not that I think that a valid reason could exist - I'd just like to know what their excuse is. Do they really think they can silence every dissenting voice in America?

Stupid questions I guess.

Our present government doesn't want to hear from any of the people they represent, veterans or not, particularly from those that might have some things to say that disagree with current policies.

Yep, we have our freedom of speech back after loosing the uniform. I guess they don't want to hear from purple hearts who got court martialed, married men given extended tours, and those with honorable discharges who were brought back after already doing a couple years over seas to do yet another tour of duty. Bush needs them to fight, not to address the way they are being treated.

They want to support our troops, but when the troops begin saying stuff that disagrees with them, then it becomes an uncomfortable exercise in cognitive dissonance.

I wonder if Chairman Buyer or any of the proposal's supporters have a yellow Support Our Troops sticker on their vehicles. Because, you know, that's what makes you a supporter.
