"Most of prisoners at the US naval base in southern Cuba have been held for more than three years without being charged" I can't help feeling that anyone voting in US elections who is not opposed to this has somehow lost sight of the nature of the freedoms they are concerned to protect. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4380642.stm

I am very annoyed by the way America treats other countries when we go into battle. Most Americans seem to assume that we are on the moral high ground, yet they fail to see where we hold a double standard. We don't give those from other countries the treatment we consider to be basic human rights. I think that is why our country is against the International court. Our government knows the world wants to hold our government accountable for the wrongs they have done. We don't even give our territories the proper rights we give the rest of the country. I think that there are some serious issues with the way the US government still operates. I think the strength of the US constitution is that we have the power to change and fix these problems. Things have gotten better. We know longer have slavery, women have more rights, and workers have more rights. In history we can see that things do get better over time. It is just a pain to have to wait for the changes to occur that will stop things like what is happening in Cuba from happening.

The argument I most often hear is that THEY (that is, the other) wouldn't treat us well if they caputured us. But if we really are on the moral high ground, then shouldn't we treat our prisoners better than our enemies would treat us? Mercy is the right of the powerful. If we can't show mercy and show our enemies that we are fellow human beings, then I think it makes us look somewhat desperate and not as in control as we should be (or project ourselves to be).
