Disclaimer: This isn't a serious thread.

I remember when I first joined SL that my first impression was that Linden Labs had made a mistake branding SL and that it should have been branded 'Better Than Life' as in the notoriously addictive Virtual Reality game in Grant & Naylor's Red Dwarf stories.

Then, as time passed, and I passed thru various phased of jaded disillusionment at the excessive preponderance of clubs, casinos and sex a whole new paradigm settled in on me: That SL should have been marketed as 'Leisure Suit Larry Online'

Has anyone else had those moments when they've looked around SL and wondered just where exactly they are?

I used to have those moments, then I remembered the red X in the upper right hand corner.

Oh, I dunno.. Leisure Suit Larry was a very funny game. Emphasising that side of SL might actually help boost subscriptions. One strange thing I noticed:

Linden Scripting Language = LSL = Leisure Suit Larry.

Linden Scripting Language = LSL = Leisure Suit Larry.

Linden Lab = LL = Lex Luthor
Coincidence?

I think it should be rebranded "Neopets for adults." Frankly, I'm surprised that none of the big nasties haven't bought sims and made immersive experiences. Coke Island Paradise. Ice Cold Pepsi Winterland. I'm surprised that SL hasn't turned into my nightmare yet.

Just to be difficult, some counter arguments:

- Leisure Suit Larry was a male oriented game, SL is more female oriented to me (shopping and dressing up)

- Leisure Suit Larry was kind of old fashioned and quasi-sexist, SL is all about tolerance.

- Leisure Suit Larry had no gay characters that I remember (I did not play it personally though), SL has many.

- There was no setting for Larry to become "Leisure Suit Linda." :)

Most importantly the markets and the users are different for each.

If Leisure Suit Larry had a story line where he wakes up in bed with a crossdressing man, the fan base would howl and the company would have collapsed. In Second Life, the users *expect* such things and might be disspointed not to see them in the game.
