Just wanted to point out that in the past 3 years of listening to UK and American radio, there is an astronomical difference in the apparent education level of the callers between countries. I'm know that's an old and worn stereotype, but it's so true. For example, almost all American callers on Loveline sound like they are an ungodly assemblage of Clueless and Hee Haw, liberally bathing their stories in "like, um, like" and rampant stupidity. But on similarly themed entertainment help shows in the UK, you really don't hear anything quite that stupid. The reason I'm even thinking about is that on Loveline tonight, after Dr. Drew told a girl to go to the pharmacy and buy a pregnancy test, the girl SERIOUSLY countered that tarot cards already told her she was pregnant... and then she SERIOUSLY asked him if she should be more concerned because the cards told her these things. WTFH. I don't know how Dr. Drew finds his job fulfilling. It must be like trying to teach chimpanzees to swim. To the UK folks... Thank you for having a vocabulary and thanks for your deadpan humor (even if you are a bunch of stroppy gobs, at least you aren't gits ). I'd go completely insane if I couldn't occasionally hear someone speak the English language fluently.

Unfortunately, most teachers in America are too busy baby sitting. It's sad

I wish to protest. I'm from the UK and every bit as dumb as the average American, thank you very much!

Thank you for your "insightful" observation. However, I look at most people (both in Europe and America) as clueless these days. I do have some wonderful, smart friends in England. There are also some very bright, well educated and wonderful friends right here in America, too. I, personally do not think that people calling a "loveline" are actually a good representation of a certain country's intelligence level. For God's sake! lol! Why on earth would they be calling a loveline if they were! lol! And uhhhhh..........What are *you* doing listening to a prgram like that? Hmmmm? LOL!

Ah, here we go again with someone from the UK promoting the dumb American stereotype. How original.

Chance's profile claims he's from Los Angeles, Cris?
In any event, I'll echo what another poster said... consider the source.
Listen to a political or economics show, regardless of your political spectrum, and you don't find shit like that as a rule. (The tarot told me to invest in pork bellies and now I'm ruined! Is it because of the alignment of Venus?)

I wasn't so much refering to morons though... moron can be in the eye of the beholder. I meant the real headcases like Ms. Tarot Card, for example.

While other cultures wait and evalutate till they have something to say.

From: Loki Pico Most smart people dont call radio shows, especially ones like "Loveline". It's a bit like "Letters to the editor" in newspapers....they don't generally give a representative idea of the opinions of the population; they give a representative idea of the opinions of the type of people who write letters to newspapers!

From: someone One reason for this is everyone in America is taught to speak. I think you misplaced the period in that phrase Although there is much to be said for the caliber of people that phone-in to shows anywhere, it is also the case that callers are screened by producers whose job it is to know their audience, what appeals to them and what will keep them tuned in, and probably most importantly, what will cause them to tune out. Even if the the total spectrum of all possible callers were to call, the most thoughtful or erudite would likely never get on the air as it is hard to lose "share" by pandering to the lowest common denominator. Some years back, I heard an interview with the producer of a television show that had - at its peak - captured a regular worldwide viewership of 1 billion (yes billion, or 1/6 of the humans on the planet.) The show? Baywatch. Need I say more?

Were you hoping to find PHD's in mathematics, or maybe Neurosurgeons in the call-in bank? America does still have plenty of those last time I checked. But I don't think they are calling into the same shows you're listening to.

I don't support this thread any more than the "Oh, those crazy stuck-up British..." thread.
