"Can I quit now? Can I come home?" Brown wrote to Cindy Taylor, FEMA's deputy director of public affairs, the morning of the hurricane.

President Bush told him, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."

A week later, Brown's aide, Sharon Worthy, reminds him to pay heed to his image on TV. "In this crises and on TV you just need to look more hardworking ... ROLL UP THE SLEEVES!" Worthy wrote, noting that even President Bush "rolled his sleeves to just below the elbow."

Just remember, he still work for FEMA.

Here's some trivia. Who wrote this?

I went to Florida a few days after President Bush did to observe the damage from Hurricane [edited]. I had dealt with a lot of natural disasters as governor, including floods, droughts, and tornadoes, but I had never seen anything like this. I was surprised to hear complaints from both local officials and residents about how the Federal Emergency Management Agency was handling the aftermath of the hurricane. Traditionally, the job of FEMA director was given to a political supporter of the President who wanted some plum position but who had no experience with emergencies. I made a mental note to avoid that mistake [edited]. Voters don't choose a President based on how he'll handle disasters, but if they're faced with one themselves, it quickly becomes the most important issue in their lives.

Rumor has it that Bush and "Brownie" were watching PBS in this shot. They argued at length about whether Thomas should allow those pesky Troublesome Trucks to help in the reconstruction of New Orleans. :D
