I was always curious, as to all the people I've spoken with, having one government for the entire world was an incredibly bad idea. Recently, I got to thinking as to why this is for some people.
Can someone here enlighten me on the subject as to why its a bad thing or if its a bad thing?

culture
and power warps ppl
right now in some squat country theres some egotistical ruler oppressing their ppl from a westeren stand point, but maby those ppl see it as traditional lifestyle and not opression... so moderen ruler steps in and takes villagers who were perfectly happy, shoves them into factorys and crams big mac's in every block, now we may see this as improvement, but to the ppl who have lived traditionally for hundreds, maby thousands of years are ousted, and now feel opressed by the man.

From: Spinner Poutine Cultures can co-exist, look at southern California ah ha, even in that narrow spectrum there are some major culture differences, rember the east coast vs the west coast sillyness, ppl died, during that time there was 2 ideas of basicly simillar cultures, in 1 nation under 1 ruler. now if ppl died over a culture difference here in the USA how does one expect 1 world ruler to take care of everyones intrest and ideas. Ie if a brittish person took over the world and declared july 4th a non holiday becuase of personal reasons (the world isnt perfect folks) you would have a major SHI+ fest here in the us. im not saying one couldnt try, im just saying that with the differences in ppl it wouldnt last 5 min with out a revolt, then everyone revolts then your back to point A someone is gonna accidently deeply offend some area of the world, most governments exist becuse of the direct intrest of the local ppl (this of course excludes dictators, who are more intrested in them selves) heh should i call you mr dick or mr tator? (sry animaniacs moment there)

From: Lo Jacobs What do you mean exactly? The US is the most culturally diversed country there is. I used So CA because I used to live in Garden Grove which is predominantly Vietnamese but also saw Hispanic and African Ams and others for the most part, get along. Everyone seemed to get along and basically wanted the same goal...to be successful, provide for their families and to get along without any confrontation. The only violence problems were/are with the local gangs, but you would have that no matter where you live. It can be done, but I also think the ones overseeing the whole picture would have to be considerate of each others cultural beliefs. There would be ways to achieve this. One would be to allow people to celebrate their religious beliefs without fear of reprocussions from employers and so on. Let people celebrate their holidays as intended, but at the same time if you're celebrating Ramadan(spell check), you wouldn't be able to take time off for the Christmas holidays. This may seem a little far fetched but the question was Why would this be a good or bad thing? A good thing, I believe, would because it would seem that everyone would be working towards a better goal of making the world a better place to live and the chance of wars would diminish. What would be the point in fighting yourself, unless you're schitzo. I on the other hand don't see anything like this ever happening except in the realm of a Star Trek civilization, but that's not reality. This is just my opinion.

Race, from my perspective, is a prevalent issue in Southern California society. It's true, we have so many people here from different cultures, but as Chance pointed out, there are definite neighborhoods in SoCal. Racial profiles are practically a commodity here. All the brothers have women on the side, and they keep it real. All the Mexicans, for that matter, have women on the side, and they won't stop whistling or staring at me, either. Oh, and they can't speak English. Asians are gangsters (or really good cooks with cheap delivery), and everyone treats the Russians with respect because who knows what they could do? Armenians are in Glendale, and nobody goes near Compton or South Central if they can possibly help it, unless they grew up there. Anyone arriving to or from LAX is there for as little time as possible. LA is a far from perfect example. (Sorry to steer off topic)

(Sorry to steer off topic) Garden Grove is in the Aneheim area and yes there are areas where if you aren't from there, you don't belong. But if Dr MLK's dream were to come to pass it could work. Everything here is hypothetical and not realistic in the world we live in today but it would be nice if it were possible. And also, I don't go to LAX for the atmosphere either. Orange county is also quite a bit different than LA county

Ok, so I see from the comments, that this isn't too entirely a bad thing, yet, we don't want to see it happen, I've yet to see a straight forward answer as to why.
What exactly is our fear of a one government ruling? Perhaps I should had rephrased the question.

Just as a general principle:
Power diffusion = good, unless you're in charge. Power concentration = bad, if you're anyone besides the power.

To expand on this idea, power diffusion is a very general concept that actually encompasses certain broadscale agreements we have such as democracy and the rule of law. A world government, to be a good idea, would have to have agreement on these basic principles among all its members. As long as we have significant portions of the population of the world under the control of dictatorial powers, any attempt to create a world democratic government would fall flat on its face. So to me a necessary prerequisite would be that a vast majority of the world's adult population is free to vote in local and regional elections, and understands the principle of having a voice in government. All that it would take to tilt the balance in favor of that, really, is having a democratic system in China.
Power diffusion applies in other ways, too. The Internet is a robust source of communication and knowledge because it is spread among millions of nodes and connections, all using a basic agreement on how to share resources. If everything had to pass through a single server or switching center, it would be highly vulnerable.
