..... following a road traffic accident yesterday.... Yesterday morning, the roads looked icey, so I got a lift to work from my son rather than risk using my moped. Husband picked me up at lunchtime, and the roads looked OK, just wet, by then. I decided to head back to work on my moped, got about half way down our road and was just thinking that the road looked a bit icey again (I'm sure it had frozen while I was home for lunch!) when the next thing I knew the bike was slipping from under me and I was off! I landed on the road on my side and managed to roll onto my back, but felt unable to get up without assistance..... at that point a woman came running out of a nearby house, portable phone in mitt, saying "don't move, I'm calling an ambulance".... oh boy! "But I think I'm OK", I protested.... but she insisted, so as I was struggling to get up anyway, I gave up and waited for the ambulance to arrive a few minutes later. I didn't feel as if anything was broken, and my main concerns at the time were the fact I couldn't get back to work to let my colleague go for her lunch, and the fact that most of the fuel I had put in the day before was now flowing out and down the road! LOL, stupid I know...... Anyway, the ambulance men checked I was OK and got me to my feet, and helped me into the ambulance.... meanwhile the Police arrived as well..... dam I hope all my paperwork is up to date was the next thought going through my head! I was interviewed by the Police in the back of the ambulance and, because I'd been involved in a Road Traffic Accident, they were obliged to Breathalise me too.....LOL, the Policeman was almost apologetic but said he had to do it! It was clear of course..... Once the Police were finished with me, I was driven about 100 yards up the road to my home - must have been the shortest ambulance ride on record! - while the other ambulance man walked my bike back to the house and parked it up. They saw me into the house and then left me to recover. I rang work to let my boss know what had happened and will probably stay off work until Monday at the earliest..... very stiff and achey this morning, but otherwise OK..... thank goodness for the well-padded clothes I was wearing, or I think it could have been much worse.

Oh my gosh! How horrible. I'm so glad it wasn't more serious and you're on the mend. Bobby will have to pamper you until you're recovered!

Hi Helen

Wow, and we just talked in the Welcome Area....the same thing happened to my wife on the day after Christmas. She got up at 4:00 am to go to the day after xmas sales. She had checked the temps, the metal poles on the fence at the house and actually walked the drive to ensure no ice. At about 5:00 am I get a call from her...."I have been in a terrible accident, I am trapped iniside and can't get out...I think I am not hurt"....As you can imagine all kinds of thought ran through my mind. I immediately called 911 and half dresssed got into my vehicle and rushed to the scene. The roads were icy in spots but made it to the accident scene. Upon arrving there was a white car between me and my wife's vehicle, needless to say, not knowing she was not in there I rushed to the vehicle in panic....as I approached the white vehicle the door opened and there she was sitting in the white car....I felt elated and drained all at the same time. She and I were extremely lucky, me for not losing her, and her for having minor injuries. the car, which did not matter to me was totalled. She was taken to the hosptial, had extenstive test ran, full body CT scans twice, 22 xrays, all of which confirmed she was ok and did not suffer any internal or external injuries. She is very very sole but ok. Side note: Always be careful in these types of conditions, although you were on a moped, in a car always wear seat belts, had she not had them on she more than likely would be with us today. I know and firmly believe someone was watching over her that day.

From: George Flan Wow, and we just talked in the Welcome Area. LOL yeah George.... oddly enough I didn't feel too bad last night when we were talking.... but this morning I ache just about everywhere, especially my arms, shoulders and back, and feel very stiff. I realise I was extremely lucky that my accident happened on a quiet road in a residential area..... if it had been on a busier road, I dread to think what might have happened! Your wife's accident sounded horrendous, and I'm very glad she wasn't injured. Hope she is feeling much better....
