First we had pre-emptive wars. Now this. Yeah, drunk driving is bad. This, however, is big brother at his worst (IMHO opinion, of course -- girded for the flames). Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk Undercover agents pursue inebriates in a pre-emptive strategyReutersUpdated: 7:12 p.m. ET March 22, 2006 SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday. The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission’s Carolyn Beck.Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said. The goal, she said, was to detain drunks before they leave a bar and go do something dangerous like drive a car.“We feel that the only way we’re going to get at the drunk driving problem and the problem of people hurting each other while drunk is by crackdowns like this,” she said.“There are a lot of dangerous and stupid things people do when they’re intoxicated, other than get behind the wheel of a car,” Beck said. “People walk out into traffic and get run over, people jump off of balconies trying to reach a swimming pool and miss.”She said the sting operations would continue throughout the state.URL: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11965237/

's got nothing to do with Texas. This is something far more insidious that has been going on for over two decades. See here for more: http://www.duicenter.com/lectures/exception01.html

You know, it would be one thing if they arrested people who got in their cars drunk...
This is just ridiculous! Why do they think people go to bars??? Sheesh

Sheesh As far as I am concerned, it's entrapment. I rarely go out to bars these days, but when I do, I take a cab. Are these wahoos gonna take note of that when they raid Oil Can Harry's?

Yes, it may be entrapment, but I've seen firsthand what happens when alcohol and driving mixes.
Arresting people for public drunkeness inside a bar is over the top though.

From: Toni Bentham I'm just waiting for *someone* to say they should be put to death..... They all deserve the death penalty - unless it happens to my friends or people who have the same background as me or if they're Christian, then there will be moral outrage! (is that about right?) ***Edit: I forgot to add some sort of rant about SLefties If anyone would like to cover that for me, please do. I haven't the time.

If they didn't have all those stupid liquor laws people wouldn't get sloppy ass drunk in bars.
I am happy to live in a state I can buy liquor on Sunday with no dry counties.
