I have a pet peeve and I'm not sure if anyone else feels the same but here goes. Wenever we get an email from our General Manager or his assistant it is always in full CAPS. This really annoys me to no end. It's not meant as yelling but to me it is and sometimes I get the feeling as if we are seen as stupid or something and can't read without capital letters. I have resisted the urge several times to respond back with a request to type normal.
Another thing is the emails always have poor spelling (not the average typo) and obvious grammar/word issues. For example: EVERYONE SHOULD BE THEIR BY 2PM. I think it sets a bad example for people in a higher position.
Ok, end of rant
BYE BYE!

Absolutely -- I usually do attribute lower intelligence when things are misspelled or words misused ("I think your being very productive" . Now whether the person is actually less intelligent because they don't know that the word "anyway" does NOT include an "s" at the end or not, it gives off a really unprofessional vibe.

Even if one of my superiors were to mistype a memo or use all caps, I would send a correction with his CCs intact. Sadly my job doesn't involve sitting near a computer. I wonder if they planned it that way?

Print the email out, cut off all identifying info, use a red pen to correct the mistake, and then leave it on their desk. You might want to grade it accordingly.
If the emails start to improve, leave a scratch and sniff sticker on the email with a comment such as "Great Improvement" or "Keep Up The Great Work!!"
Hopefully they would get the idea/hint.

OMG! We had a Gen. Manager at the restaurant who couldn't spell worth shit! I think I was pissing him off by spell checking his store memos in red ink. So to be a smart ass, and as a joke, he put up a poster he drew. It had to do with his comment about our restaurant being a friggin' circus of freaks. Me especially, as in "See our Syko Gothic Freeks". Naturally, I corrected about 10 various other spelling errors. In fact I'm quite surprised just how many managers we've had that couldn't spell. Must've been public school kids. When it's online, such as here, or email at home I dont mind it so much. When it's in a "professional" environment, Um, yea.... Not Good.

The spelling atrocities of the executive chef of the restaurant I used to work in always made the menu fun -- if not a little scandalous. One night, I served his daughter and son in law, so I felt safe enough to recite the night's special as written:
Braised Rabbi with SpƤetzle
(Disclaimer: You don't have to like this form of humor, and frankly, I don't care. Do not take this to mean I am an antisemite, though, for the truth of the matter is far from such a stretch.)

There is a woman in my office who cannot use a single question mark.
At first it was annoying as I thought she was completely out of sort about everything.
For instance:
Do you know where the 2:00 meeting is???
How long has this document been available???
It get annoying. The sad thing is that she works for me so i took even a little more insult to her "tone".
I finally had to have a talk with her about it and she had no idea what I was talking about.
/sigh

my job entails lots of correspondance with non-americans. it's always interesting to see how people interpret certain english words. i often have to go back and forth with them several times before figuring out exactly what they're asking. my favourite emails are from germany. they like to use lots of !!!!!!!!! so they always seem really happy and excited!!!! yay!!!!!!

I feel your (not you're) pain, I really do!

As much as I agree with everyone's assistive desires, I've done as much or more to alleviate similar errors, what really hurts me is that others, not just the person making the mistake, seem to find the desire for proper use of this abused language a less than laudable goal. Negative, not too terribly strong mind you, but more than just good-natured joshing responses to working toward better communication yet astounds me.
I grew up in an environment where if someone knew the answer you didn't, they'd share the information, that learning is THE goal. Improvement in every way is a postive thing in my mind, and folks that shy away from it or even shun it confound me. I find the pressure towards a status of mediocrity sad.
Thankfully, here, I'm not alone.
Thank you for sharing!

My office email annoyances: - When people start with a condition such as "if" and don't follow through with what will happen. As in, "If you could send me that report and do this and do this. Thanks!" If I do this, what, will you give me money? Is that why you left it out?
- Not including any text in the email itself but including an attachment, which is just text. As if they're using email to deliver a memo. The email is the memo! I hardly use MS Word, so don't make me open it to read about somebody I don't care about getting a promotion!
- Including everyone that has ever heard of a project or issue, just to make sure no one feels left out.
- Entire text of email: "Please call me."
