After reading this I suggest that all future drug trials be done on the CEOs of the companies involved http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/08/world/europe/08britain.html?ex=1302148800&en=746744326052d071&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rssBetter yet ask for volunteers from Repubican congressmen.

Good God: "But no one's going to die?" Rob O. recalled saying, believing he was participating in a fairly standard trial of a painkiller for arthritis.
The chilling response: "Two of you might. Who's your next of kin?"
They gave him a bizarre immune system drug never before tried on humans, and told him it was a painkiller?

Seriously.... WTF.
Note to self, never, EVER do a clinical drug trial no matter how bad I need the money or how much fun I think it will be.

From: Susie Boffin Better yet ask for volunteers from Repubican congressmen. That's discrimination, I think all politicians should have an equal opportunity for this

I volunteered to donate platelets via plasmaphoresis for a study of immunology or something. I was paid $75 USD. I remember wondering why they were paying so much for a few hours of my time. I get there, the tech inserts the needle ( a really huge one, btw) and for awhile, everything is a ok. Then, the machine separating the platelets from my blood malfunctions and doesn't give me my blood back, so the tech holds the bag up and lets it run back into me by gravity. Big mistake......the anticoagulant Acid-Citrate Dextrose all goes into me at the same time and binds with all the calcium in my bloodstream leading to a tempory (thank god) state of hypocalcemia, which felt made me feel like dog shit, to say the least! I got this horrible tingly feeling all over that lasted about 5 minutes. I thought I was going to die! The rest of the procedure went ok, and I got my money and emerged unscathed, but I wouldn't do it again.
