Im using a Packard Bell Easynote r1000 it installs and starts up fine but when I try to log in I get Server may be down.
I have a feeling the laptop is blocking port but I have no idea how to unblock them or check.

Try turning off any firewalls, anti-virus and anything Nortons and see if it allows a connection, if it does then you know it is a blocked port. It is covered in the support wiki in the sticky at the top of the forum.
Heh, I didn't know Packard Bell was still in business. I looked up your computer to see what sort of door stop it was and to my surprise I find it is a new laptop not some dinosaur from 1994. _____________________

According to this , the laptop in question may have an unsupported video chipset. I did a search on Unichrome chipsets, and apparently it is manufactured by S3. In the past, some unsupported video chipsets have been coaxed to run SL, but I personally couldn't tell you how these people tweaked their settings to do this.
