I am almost certain I read in the last day or two that there is a special problem occurring with logins in Germany. I wish I could provide more details than that but I don't remember much but might be worth doing a search in the forums.

The problem with Germany last weekend was the DNSserver number, I posted a thread called "This will solve Login Problem"

Please read this whole thread carefully before changing or making any decisions, and please understand this applies only to German users and you are fully responsible for your own actions and any alterations you make to your own computer......

i had the same problems like i have since 2 weeks. sometimes i can log in and some times the game crashes due the login process without any messages. because the problems exist for longer time i tested all like cleaning cache reinstall etc.. i also had support from LL what said it was a european connection problem. maybe today i have the crashes because i updated my graphic drivers but i dont think so because many people on slinside.de complaining about login problems too at the moment.
*edit:
@Larrie: the dns server problem was not for all users who had issues (i tried your solutuon and it didnt work! after a couple of hours i could login without problems and with the old server settings). its also not part of my thread this is what i got from support last time i had that problem:
From: someone
Greetings,

Thank you for your inquiry. There are general internet issues affecting login at this time that is out of our control. It seems to be affecting mostly European customers. The only thing we can suggest is to try again in a couple hours.

It's most likely a routing problem either within Linden Labs or their provider INTERNAP towards the German T-Online service.

There are more details on the Jira under issue WEB-257.

What you can do is to open a Windows Command Prompt (the black DOS window) and type

tracert login.agni.lindenlab.com

and

tracert www.secondlife.com

and cut/paste/post the results there. If you're techie enough, connect to your router setup (probably http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1) and look up your current IP address there (it's probably under Status, Internetverbindung, Zugeteilte IP).

Also, when you can back in, post that also, do it can be determined when the problem ends (there is a helpful Linden tech (probably asleep now) watching that JIRA issue and who was asking for details).

Oh, and if nothing else, vote up that issue.

Btw, I'm i Nuernberg via T-Online

This is most likely bullshit as the connection (from the tracert commad) drops exactly on transitioning from Level3 Networks to Linden's provider Internap.

Also, last Friday the non-availablity coincided *exactly* with the time when they posted that their support center was unavailable and came back two minutes after they said that support was available again.

The second host would still be in your own network....I've had that too and it doesn't influence anything -it might be one of the DNS servers that you get assigned that isn't responding?

@Abraham: 1&1 would be be Telekom, too. I can only login today with fixed DNS servers as well.

I can offer this with my normal DNS server(s):
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\xxxxx>tracert agni.lindenlab.com
Der Zielname agni.lindenlab.com konnte nicht aufgelöst werden.

No luck here...

This is the normal homepage, no particular problem reaching that:

That's just support down, I had that two days ago too. File a support ticket with the guest login and tell them the main login for support is down...that's what I did anyway. Was working half an hour later.

Just an FYI, I was trying WINMTR the other day and I -always- get 100% packet lost on the second entry, and I am in Oregon USA so fairly close to SL servers.

In my case, I think the issue is not the "100% packet loss" second entry, but one further down maybe the 5-6th entry that is usually 50-60% packet loss and part of the Comcast cable section of the journey (I use Comcast to connect to the net).

I am not sure what the second entry is, it always says "No response from host" and always claims 100% packet loss and since it is always at 100%, even when I have absolutely no issues at all, I figure it wasn't really significant. Maybe even something on my own WinXP home network or initial some route it tries first before going a different route.

---

edit: opps sorry, Alyx Sands already explained that the second host at 100% is your own network and not the source of the problem.

You give elves a bad name, get a better ISP
08-04-2007 09:09
Sometimes sims are laggy. Yes this happens. It sucks, get a reboot, check your scripts and your texture sizes, and get over it.

My connection is 24mbit.
My computer is a duron 800 that runs on magic and half a gig of sdram.
I'm in Australia, approximately half a planet away from the SL servers.
I often find that I am lag-free when others are complaining about lag.

In fact I rarely have problems with lag unless I'm in a built-up sim with lots of other players who want to wear AOs, listen scripts, layers upon layers of clothes, hundreds of prims in attachments, etc. I put this down to my lack of system speed.

I should also add that there are 4 mainland sims to a server.
Four and always four on the mainland.

The mainland is also split up between many different landowners who all want to run their own scripts, build their own things, and generally not care about the rest of the neighbourhood when it comes to lag.

By these tokens you'd expect there to be more lag on the mainland.

BUT, the mainland is generally no more laggy than private islands.

I put it that 90% of the time people complain about lag it's their own ISP or system and not the servers that SL runs on. I base this on personal experience, having travelled to many different sims over the last 2 years.

If you get lag, check that your SL settings are appropriate for your connection and your system. If you have a slow connection (ie 8mbit or lower) then expect poor performance.
