Clothing Taking On Textures From Surroundings On Login

The past three days, on logging in, my avatar's clothing has taken on the textures of its surroundings, the HUD and the login screen. First night was at Bare Rose, the last two days on my own property.

The textures remain until I put them back into inventory, and one time remained even after putting the clothing back on.

I filed a bug on it, but this is the third/fourth time its happened, so thought I'd post here. Its not that I am necessarily worried about the clothing, more if there is some bug. Is this happening to anyone else?

I have a few screencaps of this up on bloghud.com, just look under my posts.

I've seen this happen before. It may stem from old video drivers, or a non-supported video card.

What video card do you have, and have you tried updating your drivers yet?

This only happens to me if I'm switching around between different windows while SL is logging on or doing other things. For example, sometimes I'll check my email while SL is logging me in/rezzing, and when I tab back to Second Life I'll be wearing the web page I was looking at instead of a dress. Bizarre.

My drivers should be the latest (running a GeForce 7300 GS) but will double check that.

I know that I do typically alt+tab to mail or something when logging in, so perhaps that is it. I've been doing that for months now, and not had that come up, but maybe I've just been particularly lucky the last few days.

Will play around with logging in alt+tabbing and not and see if causes repro/no repro.

Thanks to you both!

Happens to me from time to time...during login or swtiching windows. I think it's a NVidia drivers.

After messing around with this a bit for a few days, I believe that this really is the case (tabbing to another window while loading).

Thanks all!

That's interesting. I always wondered what caused this because I frequently have this problem and it's really starting to piss me off. Too bad I have no option to change video cards, at least for a few years.

Sometimes the problem isn't solved by removing and putting the clothing/skin/etc back on... I usually have to clear cache and log back in, which is a pain since everything has to load up again. Even then I've had it happen AGAIN right after I cleared the cache.

Hope something can be done to fix this.

I've found that if you have this problem on only one part of your body (torso, legs) you can make it go away by swapping out a single clothing item, and not necessarily a visible one. Try switching out your undershorts or socks, for instance.

If it's your head that's messed up, that's harder, because there is no 'head' clothing layer. (Though there ought to be, darn it!)

Also, have you tried the 'Rebake Textures' command? Ctrl-Alt-Shift-D to bring up the 'Client' and 'Server' menus (formerly called the 'Debug' menu) if you haven't done so already, then pick Client -> Character -> Rebake Textures.

Hope that helps.
