Hi everyone, I am posting this here because this really needs some attention.
Now, it may not affect you personally, but if you pay attention, it could provide a great deal for the second life community.
Ive been living in Korea for the past 5 years now (Actually ready to come home cuz I miss the rockies)
and, during my stay, Ive noticed something quite interesting about SL,
even though the number of Korean's using second life is increasing daily, there still is a small number existing in our Second Life community.
Expanding our community is important I beleive, because the more interest there is for SL, the stronger and better the platform will become. no?
So why is the adoption rate of SL low in Asia? well.. let's take a lookie shall we?
(Im quite astonished as to why linden lab has ignored what I am about to reveal, and has not made it as one of their top priorities...)

Here it comes: Guess what? If you install Second Life on a computer with Korean Windows xp... with the defaults loaded (99% of home computers in korea that is)
I.T. W.I.L.L. C.R.A.S.H
I.T. W.I.L.L. C.R.A.S.H
I.T. W.I.L.L. C.R.A.S.H
I.T. W.I.L.L. C.R.A.S.H
I.T. W.I.L.L. C.R.A.S.H
I.T. W.I.L.L. C.R.A.S.H

Did you hear that?
****************************************
I said, Second Life installed in Korea, on Korean computers
C.R.A.S.H
C.R.A.S.H
C.R.A.S.H
That's right,
99% of Korean users CAN NOT RUN SL
99% of Korean users CAN NOT RUN SL
99% of Korean users CAN NOT RUN SL
99% of Korean users CAN NOT RUN SL
(So how do I know this) - easy, for the past year I have been going to from local Korean PC room to local Knorea (pc room) trying to load SL, and guess what? On install I get a lovely:
CRASH message...
So, I shift to the next computer, and next computer until finally after the fifth one, I give up and go home!!!!
Talk about one hell of a barrier to entry for the people in Asia heh!
-- hey guys - try Second Life its so great- Especially our nice "Crash message" (heh which is in English)
So ... why does this happen?
Well.. finally, after talking with one of the Korean groups in sl, I found out that - if your Windows XP name happens to by typed in with Korean letters, the Second Life Client doesnt seam to like it - so gues what? CRASH CRASH CRASH! Am I getting the point across???
----- even more interesting to note - every computer sold here in Korea comes with the Default OS - windows XP - in KOREAN with a KOREAN user name!
--- how many people know how to go to control panel, edit user settings, and change your user name???
-- even a better question, how many people would actually be bothered to do that, and how many Game rooms in Korea would actually go and do it???
LINDEN LABS !!!! PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE!!!!!
I KNOW YOU ARE GREAT GUYS AND GALS, AND WE ALL LOVE YOU AND KNOW YOU ARE WORKING YOUR BUTTS OFF TO GIVE US A GREAT PROGRAM, AND WE APPRECAIATED IT
BUT, IF YOU WANT SECOND LIFE (AS I DO) TO PROSPER IN OTHER COUNTRIES OTHER THAN JUST THE WESTERN ONES, PAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEZ
TAKE SOME TIME AND FIX THIS BUG
so the rest of asia can join in on the fun!!!
thanks --- asia is a huge market - lets play nice!!!!!
