If you have onboard video, it's probably that you haven't installed the proper drivers. What motherboard do you have?

Unfortunately, the VIA K8M800 chipset uses the S3 Unichrome graphics core. SL doesn't support that. You'll need to get an ATI or Nvidia-based video card if you want to use it. Sorry.

From what you've told me you either have:

K8-MMV
K8-MMILSR
K8-M Neo-V

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_list.php?kind=1&CHIP=51&NAME=Socket

I'd recommend checking on that web site and downloading the latest drivers.

However this won't solve your main problem which is that the onboard graphics isn't supported.

This : https://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=System+Requirements

tells you which graphics cards/chips are supported.

You'll need to buy a graphics card which is either:

nVidia Geforce 2 (32MB RAM) or higher, or ATI Radeon 8500 (32MB RAM) or higher

If you're stuck post back and we'll tell you if that graphics card would work before you buy it.

Ya, lol, i thought it was the graphics card. Oh well... And, i build computers for a living so I don't think im going to be posting back here to see if the card will work, lol. I have a nVidia GeForce FX 5200 in my old computer and that ran great, so, i will just but another card, lol, i sold that one, tehehe.

I just had the exact same problem (just built a new Athlon 64 3400+ system). When I tried to login, it got stuck at "waiting for response." The people on this forum were typically unhelpful.

I finally figured out that the problem was my router (don't ask me why, it makes absolutely no sense at all). When I plugged my computer directly into my DSL modem, it worked fine. When it went throught the router, it locked up at "Waiting for Response." I tried adjusting everything on my router I could (even turning off its firewall completely) to no avail. I just resolved myself to having to bypass the router when using SL.

The funny thing is, the router works fine for everything but SL and trying to install Microsoft Windows service packs. I can play World of Warcraft fine through it.

I've worked on computers for years and it makes no sense to me at all.
