That's about it. A picture is worth a thousand words.
My stats: P4 - 1.8GHz GeForce FX 5200, 128MB 512MB RAM
Every now and then, when I go to an area with a lot of prims & textures this happens to me.
What is "RenderSync"? Why is it screwing with me so bad? How do I fix it?
All my display settings are turned all the way down/off, except bump-map. The user ping is nonsensical - my network is fine. In another window, I pinged data.agni.lindenlab.comm and I had 0 packet loss, avg 39ms.
edit: removed my account balance from screenshot

Same here... 75% RenderSync with severe interface lag.

As was recently revealed by one of the Lindens, your ping directly affects your framerate. I don't know if that's what that is, but it is a slightly educated guess, I suppose.

Hi Mol, I mentioned in my post that my ping was 39ms to lindenlab. It doesn't get much better than that Also, I read through Phoenix's post. It seems to imply that bad framerate leads to bad ping times, but not the converse, as you suggested.

I see from the screenshot you were in Umber at the time - and it looks like you were in the midst of the recurring problem we've been having (sub 2 fps framerates, extremely high pings in the client). Maybe this RenderSync is another piece of the puzzle to look into...

Yes, I was in Umber when it happened this time. I was also 670m in the air - and with a draw distance of 64, this means my client wasn't really rendering anything other than my avatar But, after looking at the screenshot closer, I think "IdleNetwork" was consuming all those cycles, not "RenderSync". (Both of them are colour-coded the same ) Edit: Oh, while I'm here. I've been getting questions on how to grab all these stats. CTRL-ALT-D to turn on debug mode in SL, and then ALT-2 I think will give you this menu. It's definately Alt-[some number]

Oh that's confusing that they color-coded them the same. I suppose the placement in the list show's which is which - so I think you're right that it is IdleNetwork. Do you notice that IdleNetwork only spikes like that during the low frame rates / high pings?

Ya, I've been getting it too, but it seems to only happen when I'm up i the air. say above 128 150. when it happens I usually fly down to the ground if I can. Always seems to fix it (as long as I stay on teh ground).
my pings not great, 130 usually, but it doesn't shoot up when this happens, so I don't see how that can be the problem. It certainly is highly annoying.

edit: removed my account balance from screenshot actually fran thats not rendersync its a similarly colord 'idle network' the actual shading is done *IN ORDER* from left to right... one can only assume that the idle network slice is whats eating yer framerate because of the 16 second ping you have there (aka it can't gather the information it needs to draw the next frame, so it sits there waiting).. the actual rendersync slice is that itttttty bitty one way over on the right side

This is really wierd... sometimes I get it flying through a "busy" area like Ahern... but today I kept getting it waaaaaay high up in the sky above Cardova, with maybe as many as 50 prims in the frustum.
Turning down network bandwidth seems to make it less likely to happen, but it doesn't "fix" it - sometimes when this happens, my network bandwidth (according to alt+1) is around 100 kilobits.

Actually Eltee, we know Look back about 10 posts Anyways, this bug (at least for me) doesn't seem to have anything to do with altitude. That screenshot in question - it happened to me at ground level in Umber. Flying waaay high up didn't help either
