My boyfriend was logged off. Then his alt appeared online. I tried to IM his alt, it said he was offline. I checked the webpage, it said he was online. I refreshed the webpage, it said he was online. I checked the Find menu in the "platform" it said he was online. My friend list still said he was offline, as did the IM's I sent to him. But the Find Menu and the Website both showed him continually online.
When he logged on again, his alt and his main avi showed as both being online. Does anyone know if this has happened before?

This has happened to me quite a bit... I don't recall it happening in SL 1.5.x but 1.6.x it started occurring. I think it's some sort of database desync but I dunno for sure. Just know it's not just you!

I experienced something similar yesterday. Each time a friend moved to another sim, I got a message that he was online. But no offline messages as he left sims Lis

I've noticed this happening too. A lot more since 1.9, I hadn't noticed it often previous to that. Also, SL is noticing; it affects IMs. Often, I'll receive IMs in my email as if I were offline when I'm online (and vice versa, one would assume, which is problematic).
If I were to guess I'd say something is out of sync with trying to offload code to simulators where SL's core server isn't updated with your online/offline status in a timely matter from the simulator.
Regards,
-Flip

This 'bug' gave me a good scare the other day too.. niether of my accounts were logged into SL, I was perusing My Account via the web when I saw my alt online (one which I hadn't used for a few days) I started freaking out that someone had hacked my alt account.. I immediately changed the passwords on both my accounts to be sure.. checked again, still said it was online, went in world and tried to send him an IM and was told it was offline.
I logged into SL with the alt account and logged back out, and then it disappeared from My Friends on the website.
Gave me a good shocker since my alt is also an officer of my 16000M parcel of group owned land that I recently purchased.
