Hey! I just created this account, and I'm really excited to play. My computer is one a friend built for me, with a good connection. It runs a lot of large programs, and I've never had issues with crashing.
I can't run the SL application. First it tells me it can't go in 10??x76?, then it won't run in 32-bit. (32-bit isn't an option in my properties.)
It's an Intel 82815 Graphics Card, I think. Anything I can do to get on tonight?
TIA!

We need more details I'm afraid.. The wiki page http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=System+Requirements says that SL only runs on NVidia and ATI chipsets - however I have heard that it does have some Intel graphics chipset support. We need to know the exact name of your graphics chip - and how much graphics RAM it has. I'm guessing that the first error is something like "Unable to run full screen" http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Startup+fails+with+%27Unable+to+run+fullscreen%27 and the second is "unable to run 32 bit colour" http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Startup+fails+with+%27Unable+to+run+32-bit+Color%27 So.. Tell us about your graphics hardware and we'll take it from there.

Thank you! I'm getting Intel (R) 82815 Graphics Controller. Is that the information I need to share?
I've been tinkering with this for hours, and I can't seem to make it work.
Thanks again for the help!

Sorry- it also says:
32.0 MB memory, 1024x768, 16-bit, 60hz.

If using the drivers from here doesn't work, you may not be able to get into SL. Intel's video chipsets are kind of flakey when it comes to OpenGL.

Thanks- I'm looking into it now. If that's the case, what will I need to eventually run SL? A new monitor, or just a card of some sort.
Thanks again!

From: Evangeline McLuhan Thanks- I'm looking into it now. If that's the case, what will I need to eventually run SL? A new monitor, or just a card of some sort. Nope, the monitor is just what displays it -- It's like a TV. If those drivers don't work, you'd need to get a new video card, with either an ATI or Nvidia chipset. Do you know what motherboard you have? If it's a prebuilt computer, like a Dell or HP, what make and model is it?

I think it's a frankenstein computer- a friend of mine works with them and just came over one day and replaced our computer with it.
The monitor is a hand me down, but Windows Game Compatibility Wizard says my system is sufficient.
I keep trying to change drivers but I don't know what they are.
Thanks again.

From: Evangeline McLuhan I think it's a frankenstein computer- a friend of mine works with them and just came over one day and replaced our computer with it. Okay, that's probably good. If the drivers don't work, can you find out what motherboard you have? From: someone I keep trying to change drivers but I don't know what they are. You want these drivers. (Click on "Get the final Graphics driver".) Just to clarify, your computer's monitor doesn't matter. If it can display Windows, it's good enough for SL. Think of it like a TV -- interchangable, basically the same thing as any other TV. The computer is the equivilent of the VCR or DVD player or Nintendo plugged into it -- it's what lets you do all the fun stuff, and it's what you need to upgrade when your computer isn't cutting it anymore.
