When they say high res, they MEAN high res. Your computer is trying to save a 7680x5478 pixel bitmap. That's a LOT of memory being eaten up on top of the normal SL client, and while I can't prove it I suspect for the instant you're taking a picture it tries to turn all of the graphics settings on and up to full. Every time I've taken a high res picture my computer takes so long to respond the sim thinks I've crashed or disconnected and I have to restart SL.
But having a picture that big of you snuggling with a friend while she's naked makes it all worth while. >3 _____________________

This is a good point, I've only ever used high-res snapshots a couple of times, because they slow everything down so much (thats if I don't crash), and they usually need a relog after anyway.
Maybe there should be a "medium res" snapshot option? _____________________

I've input these suggestions before because they've come up as well--more control over the photos you take. Clearly, memories are to be treasured.

Try this...

I have found a way to still take high res shots and not have them save quite so large. I use this technique all the time for taking high detailed snaps of my designs for ads for my vendors. Most people use SL at full screen, to maximise their view, which is understandable, so do I. Possibly the exceptions to the rule are those with humungous monitors, or who use alot of apps at the same time. In any case my idea should work, at least in theory it seems to.
Make your SL window resizable, then resize it to quarter size (if you want a snapshot the same shape as the fullscreen size) or any size or shape you require ie: a portrait shot, or full length shot is good at half screen, or narrower; centre your subject. Choose high res from the menu if you haven't already, and snap the snapshot will only be as big as you make the window. Granted, it might not solve the crashing problem for everyone, but if you don't crash then doing it this way is a benefit. When you save the snapshot to your HD, it will only be say, 50mb for a half screen snapshot, as apposed to 96mb for a full screen, and obviously less for smaller resizing. Hope this helps at least some of you out there with this problem. |

^ nifty trick Poledra!
Maybe this is also of help... you can autoset your screen to a smaller resolution with correct aspect ratio (so you don't have to fidget around and wonder, "Is this too wide?" by going to:FILE ---> SET WINDOW SIZE ---> and selecting what you desire from there. _____________________

Thx Torley, only too happy to help. As we all know, when they work high res snaps are well worth the pause. Also, good idea yourself ![]() _____________________
