Hi, I'm having trouble installing SL. The problem comes when trying to install the file "secondlife.exe" it say's it is unable to write on disc the file or something like that and "press omit to ignore the file and keep installing". If i press omit, when i enter second life it says i need to update, so it auto - updates and when installing same thing happens.

I got windows xp sp 2, A p3 1000 mhz with 512 ram, enough space disc (more than 6 gb free), and geforce 2 32mb with drivers up to day so it should work fine, and actually, before this new update came over, the game was working fine.

Have you tried re-downloading the installation file from the web site, and doing an uninstall of SL before you install?

Did you try checking your disk with the fix system error enabled?

I can see three possible problems that could bring write/read error
- File downloaded is damaged
- Your HDD is damaged
- Memory issues

Cou also could try deleting the cache files from your /document and settings/ folder.

i downloaded it 20 times, 20 failures. My HDD is fine, otherwyse many installations will result in possible errors, and/or windows will be unstable and who knows what other issues that i'm not experiencing.

Memory... hmm the first time i enter the server i play like 3 hours non stop without any crashes, and no other setup fails to install, besides this, so i really don't know what's going on, but it would be better if they create a better installation program.

how do u delete the cache from that folder? i've been looking but nothing.

If it is already installed or was installed it is possible that some important file cannot be acessed, cannot be rewritten or is messed up.
Can you write the exact error message?

Error opening file for writing:

C:Archivos de programa\SecondLife\Secondlife.exe

Click abort to stop installation,
Retry to try again,
Ignore to skip this file.

This happens everytime, even if uninstalling and downloading fresh new setup file.
I've try to retry and sames happen, i ignore the file, and when i enter the game it asks for update and all the process starts again till i reach the secondlife.exe failure. I really don't know what it is, its obviously nothing to do with the HDD, i suspect it can be due to cache, or a missing file in it or something, i really don't know, can anyone send me through private messange o my msn "toms_uo@hotmail.com" the secondlife.exe newest file? THANKS!

Have you checked, after uninstalling SL, that the file secondlife.exe don't still exist in that directory? It may be locked somehow so that uninstall is unable to remove it (possibly corrupted), and then when installing the setup finds the file and is unable to open it.

Btw. I got, first time ever, with this latest update an error message about corrupted file, when used the autoupdate thingy of SL.
I ran virus check (nothing found) and then ran SL again, and it worked ok, getting SL updated and running.
