Hi, I just got a GeForce 7600 with 512 video ram, but SL preferences will not let me chose a higher setting than 128MB. 256, adn 512 are shaded out. what can I do to fix this?

wow, what a disapointment. I only have 392MB of system RAM. Mine uses Rambus to it was cheaper to get a better video card with more ram than to upgrade the rambus. But SL will not even use half of that it unless I have over a GIG of system ram.
Yet another disapointment. Well thanks for your help. P _____________________

For what its worth, having more than 128MB of video ram in SL gives you very minimal improvements. I have seen SL use 128MB+ very few times. More system ram would make a huge difference.

I recently upgraded from a 128 to 512MB graphics card, and immediately noticed an improvement in texutre loading speed. Also a much sharper image in the client. I have 1GB of system ram, and other than the graphic card update, I made no changes at all to my system. So, in my case the improvement was more than minimal. Of course, your mileage may vary. ![]() - Sam _____________________

Theres much more to a video card than just its memory. If you open up your texture debug you will see how much ram SL will use, and it rarely ever goes past 128MB of video memory being used. Just because theres a setting for how much video memory you have doesn't mean SL is going to utilize all of it. _____________________

If ram was the most important part of a video card then a 128MB Geforce MX 440 will be the same speed of a Geforce 6600 128MB. _____________________
