One of the main problems in sl if not the main one is the constant crashing by players. It used to be I'd never crash but this was a while back. For the last few months it's all you hear about and it's been happening to me now but it seems nothing is being done by Linden.
I can tp from place to place without any problems. But there are some places where I will crash. I'll leave the game completely. I will return to where I crashed only to crash again either right away or after a few mins. This repeative crashing will go on all night long as I return to the same place.
Now, this happens only in certain areas. It doesn't matter where it is or how many people are there. I have crashed repeatively in places where there's no one there but me, yet in heavily crowded places like clubs it won't happen.
I don't know if it's sl or my computer. But I have never had any problems with sl and I have played just about all of the top games without any problems. I had picked up a $500 Nvidia Video card but I'm returning it due to over heating. Meanwhile I'm using the old card I had but it seems to be faltering, turning a shade of green at times, while being ok other times. Can this be the problem?
What can possibly be doing this? Or is there anything I can do on my part to help correct this problem? I have defragged, cleared sl cache, lowered the settings. Taken off jewelry and still in certain areas I continue to crash non stop.
This is very frustrating and tiresome having to deal with this BS at times on a daily basis.
Thanks for any info provided.

Suggestion for next time: give us a CLUE what your issue is in the thread title. That way, folks who ARE interested are likely to click, and folks who are NOT won't waste their time.
A thread title with no information in it says "A moment of my time is more important than a moment of time of the hundreds or thousands of people who visit this forum."

For someone who just got here you have a lot of mouth. One hundred plus post since August and we're not even in mid Oct. What? You going around trying to tell people what and how to write things up? I'll write it the way I please, if you don't like it, you know what you can do.
Amazing, idiots everywhere. This is for gathering of information and people write the way they want. Who are you to tell anyone what or how to do things? If you have nothing useful to add to the questions provided here, don't butt in.

You're making yourself look pretty dumb with comments like this. Not a good way to start in sl forums. Here, either you try to help out or you stay out of it and let other's try to. Seems lots of folks are goint thru' this same predicament of constant crashings. I tried the same thing of taking off prims but most of the times it doesn't help either. Hopefully someone knows a good way to minimize these crashings.

Since the voice client was released, many people with lower end machines have been experiencing crashes, usually due to video chip/card overtaxing. If you want any more specific response, go to Help/About while inworld and copy the machine specification from there into a message here.
fwiw, I did not feel Lear was terribly out of line with his comment. if i don't like someone's comment about my posting style, i simply ignore it. (Or, if they're right, thank them and change my style. Personally, I am a fan of specific titles also.)
Remember too that several alts are active on the fora. just because an avatar doesn't have a lot of postings, does not mean the person at the kybd is an SL forum noob.

Since you replaced a hardware part, I take it your pc is older... it often helps to clean the inside, the ventilators for example, specially those on the board and cpu and the generator pull the plug before you touch anything inside. before you close your Pc make sure all cards and cables are tight in their slots .

i sorta agree with the comments about the title, not because it wastes my tile (cause theres always someone making some form of entertainment value) but because those who may know whats going on might just skip over the post
face it (almost) everyone is seeking a solution in the tech help forum
also retaliating with a direct personal attack is just as bad as being an ass
now onto the op
well i must be one of the idiots everywhere and i wont dare tell you how to do things ... so never mind, good luck in your SL

Regardless of what anyone writes on the op title, no one has any right to say they're wrong. He wrote 'seeking a solutin" which is exactly what he's trying to do. This isn't about Writing 101 but about helping each other being we're all in the same boat. Then to put some comment about your time is oh so important it makes you seem like a snob.
Bottom line is if you can't help the situation then you're comments aren't needed. Especially if you're coming across criticizing for no other reason to make yourself look smart. Save your precious time by not saying anything, period.
He didn't say anthing about not having a lot of postings. If anything if you read it you'll see he meant in such a short time he's accumolated a lot of posts.
These crashes seem to of come like Nika said, with the addition of the voice client. Also what Step said helps and may reduce them. Defragging, cookie cleaning and keeping the computer clean may also help. It can't hurt.
I doubt Linden will take care of these crashes as many of us hoped.

I have been crashing more often lately. I can't tell if my graphics card is dying, or if it is SL in general. I know at certain points of the day that there are problems such as failing to attach objects, failed teleports, money transaction failures, crashes etc. My SL experience was pretty bad this weekend, but got a little better throughout the week. I think some of it is server side. Hopefully your computer meets the minimum requirements to play SL.
However, it would do you some good to check your graphics card's drivers. Go into the device manager to find out what graphics card you have. Try to update them there or do a Google search on them. I have a graphics card that meets the requirements and exceeds them I believe, but it was a few years older. I run it on ATI drivers released in 2007 which helps.
Speak of the devil...I checked my drivers and the ATI site....there are new ones out for my card!

Might not be your end that has the problem entirely. Though if you're getting colour corruption from your card I'd certainly assume it is a culprit. I remember a thread or JIRA post (forget which) about huge textures crashing some graphics drivers. I think it was textures at 2048x2048 and above are just too much for some card drivers / cards. I guess you could try changing your card driver to either the official one released by your card manufacturer, or if that fails the latest Nvidia or ATI release depending on your card. There was talk of deleting all 2048+ sized textures from the database, but afik it never happened.

From: Ricardo Harris One of the main problems in sl if not the main one is the constant crashing by players.. I see people say this a lot. Crashing sucks. I also see people not even bothering to say what OS they have, let alone doing a copy/paste of the specs listed in About -> About SecondLife. (edit: or giving us a jumbled list of everything they bought.. don't do that, just copy the text from About SecondLife)

Please be nice to each other. Being nasty isn't required to ask the OP for more information.

Hmm well it is good to see that I am not the only one having this problem. (well not good, but at least now I know it isnt something I did) I have never had crashing issues with SL until this last update, now I am finding that my client crashes at least once every 20 minutes or so. I am a software developer and am trying to work out what can be done to help stop or at the very least reduce this problem as it can be very disappointing when having a chat with someone to just drop out. Anyway hopefully all will be fixed in the next update or something.

I have noticed i am crashing more. There always seems to be this heavy disk usage like it is doing something with the cache, and it thrashes more, and starts to lag more till it finally crashes.
