huge freezing problems in second life:

Hi all, elli is having such a hard time today with freezing. she's actually had trouble since the new 1.1.0 or whatever it was called was installed everything freezes on elli and she loses her connection. Somtimes it locks up her whole computer. Is anyone else having troubles like these?

Maybe you should checkthe system for viruses and other unfriendly thing. RUn a virus scann and remover and see what ou come up with. Also make sure your Drivers are update.

I'm been having the same kinds of problems as Elli ever since the new version 10 came out. I've tried scans and updates but nothing seems to help. I am nearing my wit's end. SL just isn't fun like this.

Schwanson suggests updating all of your drivers. Schwanson has also heard that computers using integrated video will not run SL anymore.

Perhaps you guys can give Schwanson your system specs.

I've been having troubles, too, since the first upgrade a couple of weeks ago. It's only with my laptop. PC doesn't seem to have a problem, which is strange, because they are virtually the same, hardware and software-wise.

I've updated every driver that I could. I run ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security and Anti-virus, Registry Mechanic and Ad-Watch. I've tried tweaking their settings, and have even shutdown all of my security for a couple of days, just to make sure that this is not what was causing the freeze.

My security is set to run at all times, scan everytime I boot and I update them each Friday. I've made sure that my security is giving SL total control when it asks.

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 9200 with ATI Radeon 9700 series with Cat 6.3 Omega driver.

I'm lucky to last 5 to 10 minutes before my entire computer freezes up and I have to reboot. Ocassionally I can last an hour, but that's unusual.

Any clues?

Elli couldn't stay online at all last night. she has a gateway computer but isn't sure what you means by specs.

this one just purchased a new Video Card called a ati Radeon 9550 and did all the updates on the drivers. Elli was very careful to purchase a compatable card for this program so she can't imagine it is the cards fault as there's no trouble in any other chat enviroment or games.

Finally elli begs forgivness if she offended anyone by her manner of speech she is a Gorean slave and ordered by her Master to speak this way. She will be sure to tell her Master of the offense and is very very sorry.

After my last post i logged on to SL and after crashing and re-logging twice had a most spectaculr crash. My computer was so frozen up that even the task manager froze. I'm almost afraid to try logging in again.

Isn't it funny how people have to be just plain rude about it? Give her a break she is asking a plain, and simple question. And while Gorean speak may not have arisen from the books directly it *is* the accepted speech among most, not all that practice Gorean lifestylings....it isn't a question of reading a book, its a question of following what her Master has indicated is His preference. In addition, this is an accepted practice among many of the D/s community as well, *not* just Goreans. Period.

Aye. And considering the lass used decent punctuation and everything was overall understandable, snide remarks should be kept to a minimum.

SOME posters I've seen around here could take lessons from her and improve greatly. Regardless...


I think the questions to ask here are:

Does it do this with any other 3d game?
Does it do this with just normal non-gaming use?
Does it only happen after several minutes/hours of playing SL? Could it be heat?

I also am having severe problems. In April, I bought a new Nvidia Geforce FX 5200(I checked with SL support before buying to make sure I got one that was compatible). It worked great and I was very happy. Then came the updates. I am not computer illiterate. I know how to run virus scans, and update drivers etc. I cannot go into any popular regions at all, I crash immediately. I can stay home, but whats the point of that. I spoke to live help last night, and apparently a lot of people with my card are experiencing the same problems. I also have a lot of friends who don't have my card and have the same issues. Also, Enabran Templar, Elli was having a problem and discussing it..........you being an outright jerk does nothing to help it. I hope the new patch addresses these new problems.

As the one Elli mentioned as requiring third person speech, I would like to thank those that offered her their kind attention and offers of help...I have no further comment on that...but I will add in reference to the question in general that I have also had some problems....mainly freezing in one particular area of my land in Charissa....this freeze has necessitated a hard shut down when it has occured...I would say a dozen times in the last week....it never happend before, I may have been booted ocassionally, mostly when texturing, but it never locked up the system like this...a friend of ours has been crashing even more frequently, he says it happens when he zooms in and goes into edit...essentially putting an end to any building for the time being....so?...many unrelated problems?...or something to do with the last update? ....something else?

If I'm reading the crash logs correctly, you recently installed a Radeon card, but you did not update the drivers. If you haven't done so, I highly recommend it.
