Vehicles returned while being driven now? :(

Well, I took a couple friends out for a tour along the edges of the void sims and while passing through one of them, suddenly my boat is returned to me. I try again, and after 5 minutes it's returned again. The point is I was still driving it, and people were sitting on it. :(

I also have avatars that use a vehicle section for some of the body. Suddenly they are also getting returned. Now I got a few inventive but seemingly useless avvies and vehicles because evidently if I stop or take too long to cross any zone they get autoreturned.

Funny how they encourage the use of roads and such, and then keep crippling the use of vehicles. If you drive fast, you run into everything. If you drive slow, now autoreturn gets you. You just can't win any more.

Guess I can toss my slow tour boats out. "Sorry folks, we have to roar through the tour in high gear so we don't lose our ride" :P

And I had all these nifty plans for "Lindensaurus-watching" expeditions and casual afternoon chit-chats just anchored at sea. :(

After the tests I did last night.....

Mocha (The lake near Mochastyle - No one was there to return the vehicle I was driving)
Ahern (at the lake there where I tested my Lindensaurus)
Rodeo (where I start my tours)
Navora (To test here because it has a 1-minute autoreturn)
Plum (the no-build portions that are not sandbox)
[insert name of any void sim]

Generally any place that has an autoreturn seems to do it to me. Even on Linden land and in voids. Unless Governor Linden has something personal against my tours. :(

Well, I get off work for lunch hour in a minute or two. Will head home, and spawn the serpent in Balance, and hang out there for the lunchhour. I think it has a small autoreturn time out in the water. Will see if it gets returned.

I have yet to confirm this. I hope it's not true consistently -- and if it is, I hope behavior gets reverted to the "old way" so that one can comfortably sit in one's vehicle without fear of it vanishing and leaving one's virtual ass on the hard, cold pavement.

Regulating speed is a real bother. In particular, I've had several troublesome experiences up at the new sims (from the Waterhead TH). I've run into newbies there who are amazed by the vehicles, so I try to take them for a ride. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking "New sims, low lag, smooth ride -- right?" Unfortunately, it never plays out this way, and even on a little vehicle such as Ironchef's Pimp Wheel ubertrike, sim crossings eat me up and spit me out with half of my body above the concrete and the other half down below. I'm paralyzed, petrified, and going "Grrrrrr!" Not to mention, if I have a passenger, he/she/it was most likely tossed out or is experiencing the same stoney process that I am.

I just wish we could travel around the grid without this dampener on our vehicle rides. I really do. Sales would go up too, no doubt, as form would have the functionality it needs. I know much has been said about this previously, and I wanted to share my personal experience.

I'll let ya know, Psyra, if I ever have a vehicle autoreturned to me in the manner you described.

Well, hung around various spots during the noonhour, no returns happened.

Mebbe that was just Monday-owned land? Mondays always do evil things to me, even in SL. :>

Me too

I have also had my vehicle auto-retured with me in it. (was on land with a 1 minute auto-return). I would have assumed vehicles or objects being sat on would'nt be returned.. Think ill try again.

Does it happen only when crossing sims?

If they're being returned due to the sim-crossing bug, you'll probably be getting "your object went off the world at" messages instead of just "your object has been returned to you" messages.

This might also happen if the physics modeling on the veihicle breaks down in some way...I've had this happen to me trying to squeeze under a bridge on a sailboat up in the new sims.

Aha! The solution!

We /may/ have figured it out. Welly says thus, and it makes sense to me as I was working on the scripts for my vehicle at the time and was thus standing and re-sitting a few times when my returns happened. See below: ;)

When you are in a sim with autoreturn, the timer does not run by default. BUT...

If the driver (and all passengers) leaves the driver seat, the return timer starts ticking. And at that point, even if they get back on, the timer remains ticking. Of course, if you all pile on and run across a property line before the timer ends, you are safe. but in all the cases of returns, it was hoping off in a large sim (A void) and then making a script edit, then hopping back on. By the the timer had only a minute or two left, and then within 2 minutes it would poof (Unless I managed to cross a sim line, but I was staying in the voids)

I will actually solidly test this tonight. Basically... pilot a vehicle into a void sim, Stand Up, then ride again, and wait 5 minutes... see if the return hits ya. ;)
