I read in the forums a while back about trick from Hank Ramos about changing SL priority to belownormal in XP (2000 too?) to gain a lot of response when switching between or opening other programs. It helped me out tremendously while running SL as a window.. I have very little to no delay in opening a browser or tabbing between SL and other programs. I also notice no real decrease in performance of SL in doing this. Anyway I thought I'd repost this and how to make a shortcut do it everytime in case anyone who runs SL as a window is interested. I'm sure other avenues can be taken to gain performance in SL and opening/switching programs , but this has been like night and day for me. To make the SL run as belowpriority from the shortcut: 1) Right click on the SL shortcut and choose properties 2) Paste C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /C "start /belownormal C:\Progra~1\SecondLife\newview.exe" into the target field ** WITH the quotes ** That is about it You may also want to click the Change Icon button and locate the newview exectuable file in the Secondlife directory .. this will allow you to put the SL logo back on the shortcut. Another thing you may do is select Minimized next to Run: .. This will put the temporary 1-2 second cmd prompt window to the taskbar where you're less likely to notice it while it calls up SL. There may be other ways of doing this, but this is how I do it *EDIT* : Changed drive letter since I have it on E:\

Or get a program like Priority Master ( www.prioritymaster.com) and it will do this for you at whatever priority you want, low, high, medium, whatever. Just a suggestion, both methods work fine. PS I don't work or make money from this, just love the program! lol

using the start command to set the priority to below normal doesn't work because newview sets it's own priority back to normal after it starts. You have to set the priority after it's started. Priority master works because it looks the the list of running tasks and checks their priority periodically (ie: after it's started) and then sets them.
