well i have been having a ton of problems with SL. I have never come across a program with so many bugs and issues.
Firstly, in game, i can turn around but cannot move forwards or backwards or off the spot where i am currently standing. Sometimes the program does respond but when i start moving forwards, i dont stop.
My character then sinks down below the surface and keeps moving!
I have emailed support and tried live help but they didnt bother to reply or found no solution.

Those are the exact symptoms of losing connection with the server, what is your internet connection speed? Are you running wireless? Have you tried doing a speed test ( http://performance.toast.net is a good one)? Tried running with your firewall turned off? Are you running through a proxy or are you in a college dorm perhaps? Can you list your specs on your connection and computer?

Losing connection soon after I log in...

I'm having the same issues; my connection speed is close to 5Mbps, but when I'm connected to Secondlife the broadband connection is zero as reported by "CTRL-SHFT-1" although I can still surf at 5Mbps. I've turned off the Windows Firewall, allowed the program, even added the port 443, 13025... but doesn't affect the outcome. I have a Netgear cable modem CG814WG... must be a setting there that's the problem. Any ideas??
Thx, Dirk

I get this too at times. It seems to be a recent thing and it depends which SIM I am in. Orwood and Emellia are fine but anything on the new(ish) southern continent is dodgy. I am lucky to get ten to fifteen minutes on there before I get the no forward/backward movement issue, or the can't stop flying problem. Logout and log back in clears it until the next time. Yes I have a new router but it's the same as the old one that I broke and is set up identically. A recent upgrade from 2mb to 8mb broadband has made no noticable difference.

I have exactly the same problem. I tryed the game without windows firewall but, it's the same. I have to clic many times every minutes on "map" boutton to "wake up" the response to game server. If i don't do that, i stuck definitely... can't move, just rotate on my place. have an idea to resolve it?
