Getting the most out of an old card

I'm running a Radeon 7500 on Win XP, 512 MB RAM (I know, it ain't much, but it's all I have).

I just downloaded the latest Omega drivers and I notice a setting for "Game Profile". I was wondering what, if any settings I should use in that section for any improvement I can get.

I get about 15 fps when I'm the only one around in a fairly small sim, but whenever I go to a larger sim with a few other people I drop down to 3-4 fps, sometimes less.

All settings in Preferences are down to the bare minimum.

Is there any way I can squeeze a few more fps out of my card, or am I just lucky to be running the game at all?

Thanks very much in advance...

I've found reducing the Video card ram setting down to 64 or 32 meg helps a lot.

I'm running SL on a 3Ghz P4 with an intel on board video card.

Being able to just log in with an ATI 7000 series vid card is an accomplishment in itself. SL has officially never supported anything less than a Radeon 8500 since beta. I could never get a 7000 series to even log in without crashing or a lockup.

That's kinda what I thought.

Thanks!

Spaceman-
Do you have a link to the good driver for the 7500? I'm using a Dell 5100 laptop with XP SP2, and for now, minimal performance is fine, just so I can get my feet wet before I spring for a new computer.

If I want to rip the whole box apart, I can upgrade the card, but the only compatible card is the Radeon 9000- 32M, which may not be much of an improvement.

Thanks,
Geo

I got it! The trick was to get one old enough -- 6.5 or older. For future reference:

Radeon Omega Driver 3.8.252
Size: 22Mb
Author: ATI & Omegadrive
Description: Catalyst 6.5
Operation System: Windows XP/2000

For SL it's really slow, but good enough for a newbie like me.
