Hi!

I got SL to work smoothly with my ATI x800 but now, whenever I teleport into a populated zone except a sandbox it crasehs after 30 seconds or so.

I tried to teleport to Voss, and I reemerged somewhere close to it, but I can not leave that place, except if I teleport into a sandbox again, because the game just freezes and nothing works anymore.

If I close and restart it it always asks me if I want tos end a crash report :(

Does anyone know why this happens? Is that one of the problems with teh ATI cards?

Ati where should i start

1. try the Omegadrivers
[ www.omegadrivers.net
2. Disable gdi crash thingie in display properties / settings / ati something
[i forgot where since i dont use ati more]
3. Smash ati to make it more compitable with SL (or the other way around)
oh wait sometimes it work , been there done that, :p

I had all kinds of problems with the Omega drivers that I did not have with the ATI drivers on my 9800XT, so make sure you create a restore point if you are using XP before you switch.

You might want to try turning off all the video enhancements in the SL client and turn them back on one by one to troubleshoot, before you replace your drivers.

I still have problems with shadows locking up my computer hard, and inside lighting lagging me to a standstill in busy places, so I have those options turned off.

Good luck!

Tito

It may sound strange but I am suspecting my connection to be the culprit right now.

Twice after I had a freeze I could neither log into the game nor onto the members section of teh website nor into accounts on other (totaly unrelated) sides!

But I could surf onto the secondlife website (just not into the login) and any other website! Odd!

our ingame login and website use the same secure logins on the same network ports as other websites with HTTPS pages. It may be that something's blocking data on that port (443/TCP).

Actually I did not have this problem whatsoever until the last patch. Now the client seems to intermittently hang at 100% cpu. Killing the program results in sending a bugreport.

I haven't been able to consistently reproduce it, either.

Actually I can reproduce it now. I'm permanently stuck hanging on load coming into Wixom at the teleport. Ahhhhhgh..

Thanks for the tip! I opened port 443, but it still crashes!

Oh! and I just noticed that my computers CPU is at 100% when it crashes too. maybe its something our computers have in common Venturi?

p.s.

The streaming music plays on just as if the game was running normal when it freezes, I just noticed that in a club.

Hi!

I am wondering if these game freezings I am getting are only happening to a few people.

The odd thing is, while the game is frozen the cpu load is at 100%, the entire time the game is frozen regardless on how long you let it sit.

Now this only happens to me outside of Sandboxes.

So, teh game is still running, streaming audio keeps playing normally. But teh whole display is frozen motionless.

No buttons work and it won't run again until it is restarted.

This doesn't sound like a fault of the graphics card, does it?

This used to happen to me (the whole freezing after teleport thing, with audio still playing). Lately it hasn't been happening.
It may be because I now hold still and don't move or turn for fifteen seconds or so after a teleport has completed, just giving everything time to "load in" before putting any more strain on the client.
On the other hand, maybe it's just coincidental. Uh.

...I should add that my graphics card is overclocked, and I tried the stand-around-and-wait thing because I was worried SL was just sorta getting freaked out graphics-wise and locking its video. :P Programs other than SL were still working, though, and could be tabbed to while SL was frozen.

If it interests anyone, I found a solution for my freezing problem.

I turned off Shadows in the graphics options and cwas able to play without problems yesterday.

I hope its not a fluke and will continue to run without problems, in any case, the game did not freeze again so far.
