On the accounts section of SL website there is still this page that allow players to pay for land tier at a rate of 0.50 US$ per 1000 L$. Considering that even after big drop of L$ the rate at GOM and IGE is around 4 US$ per 1000 L$ the price on the SL website is an exchange rate that effectively equals rip-off, even if that was not intention when the page was setup in the first place.
Sorry, but this page is either useless if nobody is stupid enough to pay for land tier this way instead of selling L$ at GOM and pay much cheaper US$ rate. Or it is damaging if really some newbie is stupid/naive enough to use it.
I believe it is way overdue to either remove this page completely or to adjust exchange rate to something at least somewhere close to real exchange rate on GOM/IGE. People might feel screw over if they pay that way in first place and later find out real value of L$ .

Think of it as a 'For Sale' sign:
It adds nothing, doesn't facilitate transactions and is obsolete.

i think the TOS says they can pretty much do whatever they want with money and the exchange rate and such. the L$ doesn't have a real value (neither do most irl currencies hehe) so it doesn't matter much what they use as their exchange rate it just adds options and fosters competition. competition is good. i'm a newbie and i didn't know that page existed or that you could pay for your land allowance with L$ until you mentioned it. i don't know you from a hole in the ground but i'ma baselessly accuse you of not being worried about newbies using this and instead wanting a better exchange rate for yourself so you can pay less for your land tiers. hehe just kiddin'. (no i'm not.) yeah i am. (or am i?)

not sure why it's there, but the reason it's so high is that LL would rather you didn't use it. See if you pay them in fake money for your land tier, they don't get much . I suppose they could start trading on ige or gom but being they make the money, this prolly wouldn't work very well as they would then be in the business of controlling the market which they have said they don't want to do. Also, it would make there profit directly dependant on the state of the L market. ya, not so good. Probably just removing it is a good idea, but possibly there are people who refuse to get a paypall account and still want to pay with their lindens? beats me.

Agreed this should go. We created it a long time ago before the $L exchange rate settled in and I don't think any one ever used it.

Haney, I don't think it should be removed entirely, but, have it so the rate matches the rates on GOM.
