Removing McAfee

I have a Dell Dimension 8400, with a McAfee Security Suite preinstalled(AV, Firewall,Site Advisor). As mentioned here, and from observation as well, this is a big respurce waster. As a rule i shut down every thing I can before starting SL, but certain elements of McAfee won't close out. I used AVG on my last machine and it worked well for me. I tried uninstalling McAfee, there is no uninstall utility provided, andthe XP Add/Remove doesn't get all of it out, the Security Center and other elements remain. It seems to be imbedded in the OS. Is there any way to remove all of it? I'm not afraid to fish through the registry if need be, I had to do that to totally remove AOL. It was suggested that I get a new XP install disk, but I really don't want to make that expense. TYIA.
