When promted to update to the 1.12.2.9 patch I clicked to download as usual. Upon installing it, the first approx 25% of the files could not be installed. After finishing, and restartting SL the patch apparently didn't take and I'm prompted to DL it again.
It now seems that it may be the wrong patch that it's giving me, or it is faulty. The Patch Intallation is labeled as "Second Life 1.12.2: Installing". It then promts me saying "It appears version 1.12.2.8 is already installed. Install again?" I say YES, and I get the "Error opening file for writing" error for the following files: SecondLife.exe, dbghelp.dll, fmod.dll, msvcr71.dll, js3250.dll, nspr4.dll, plc4.dll, plds4.dll, xul.dll, static_data.db2, static_index.db2. I must click Ignore for each of these to continue the installation. At the end it says "Second Life 1.12.2 installed, would you like ot start game?" I say YES, and guess what? It asks me to DL the patch again. Neverending loop. PLEASE POST THE CORRECT PACTH ON THE WEBSITE TO DOWNLOAD.
EDIT: I tried uninstalling the game and downloading the latest version of the site. Mistake. It gave same errors as above. AFTER 2.9 patch when launching the game it says I have version 2.7!!! PLEASE FIX THE PATCH/INSTALL FILE!!! Also, I have Virus/firewalla sturned OFF when doing all this.

The download page is at http://secondlife.com/community/downloads.php . The auto-updater has a long record of flakey or defective behavior. In general it is probably better to use the download page. If you go to secondlife.com and log in, if you aren't automatically logged in, there is a dropdown list labeled Resident Links near the top right with the download page in it.
