I lost ability to edit my scripts, then I logged out to see if it was me, couldn't get back in, and suddenly an Admin logged Kya out next to me.

Hey Torley? What's going on?

We’ve had to take the grid down temporarily to fix something. Second Life will be offline for about 1 hour. We’ll keep this blog entry updated with more details as we have them. We apologize for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience.

Nevermind.

Yes they apparently kicked everyone off the grid, no warning or anything so it must be a serious databae (asset server issue). Which if you were having problems with scripts, that is probably why. And yes nothing on the blog and the website is having difficulty loading (eveyrthing including the blog, though the forums are still working about the best). My best guess is the asset server was lagging behind again so they kicked everyone off to let it catch up and Sl will probably be back up in a hour or so.

1. Who the heck is Pathfinder Linden?

2. What did they inconvenience us to fix? Call me crazy but if your going to take the grid down to fix something it might be a good idea to at least tell your paying customers why they are being logged out. Details please.

3. This makes 3 days in a row where the Grid has been down for at least an hour or more of unscheduled down time.

4. I like Pie!!!!!!!!

Ah, well I guessed the time correctly. And I susspect the "something" is a lagging asset server. Guess we shall see.

The wonderful blog doesn't even load for me -- tries for about a minute then fails to an error screen. What a great official communication method.

Yes indeed - look at "Grid Status"...

"The database's butt is lagging behind like Psyra's feathers after we booted him" (that's paraphrased).

Yeah most of the system was timing out, all I could get to was the forums by going to them via the subdomain address, the blog FINALLY loaded but its all messed up too.

Gee isn't it funny that the forums have been deemed UNNECESSARY but yet they are the only lifeboat we have in a situation such as this?

I mean...really. You'd think someone in San Fransisco would get a clue.

I was seeing some odd behavior too. A saved script I was working on abruptly reverted to an old version saved a few minutes previous.

I'd rather see things fixed ASAP than live with those sorts of time-delaying problems. And yes, you may say "but being offline is a delay!" ... but the difference is, it won't hurt my rhythm to go get take-out now, than it will to get it while I'm working. ^^

:D

Well they might be making some boneheaded decisions lately but at least their senses of humor are still intact.

Somehow doesn't make sense to have the words "Your Second Life is Ready" right beneath apes hammering it out to fix a downed system. I mean, if THIS is your Second Life, how horrible must your First one be that this is an upgrade? LOL!

I understand repairs and I understand unforeseen circumstance and quick patches and what not...I just don't know why they handle them so poorly one week to the next and seem to be going backwards. Taking forums down to use a downed blog? Bright idea. Deserves an award. But seriously..all the box attacks from whomever( careful N00b trying to avoid mentioning names to avoid being banned from forums that are going away--defies logic anyway)--well, wouldn't a simple little thing like a credit card for all mature members take care of that? I could be missing something since I'm new but seems to me, anyone can sign up with free account and keep blasting SL all they want and inconveniencing paying clients. Between this and the weekly downtime with no account reimbursement, I'm seriously wondering why I'm a paying client anyway. Ponders....

Read the TOS, they scan your system hardware (major components) and ban you based on that if you're a griefer/hacker/whatever. You'd have to get online from the library to keep it up. Since they implemented that I've seen a good drop in griefing.

I don't understand how that's relevant, but....

The grid is back up, yay!!!

Houston, we have ignition.

Read in Reader's Digest, while a woman and her 6-year-old son were watching Apollo 13:

"Of course they have a problem mommee! Forrest Gump is driving!"
