So, I've to an mov file that I'd like to play on a screen in SL.
I uploaded the mov file to a web server, and sure enough, when I go to the MOv file, it plays in quicktime.
I go to SL, create a screen, set the texture to the screen to match the media URL. and press play. I get static bars.
Now here's something weird -- When I bring up the mov file in my browser, the entire file most load before it starts. I expect that's the problem. the mov file, or the web server is not configured for streaming.
ideas?

I am not at my own computer,so I cannot give exact intructions - but when you are saving or exproting your Quicktime movie -look for a Setting called "FastStart". This option will include info in your filefor streaming the movie. Here is a decent tutorial on creating Quicktime content for the Web. I guess that it is also possible for that your movie file is just too large to stream properly via SL. i like to shoot for 3 or 3.5 megabytes per minute of video for an SL video file.
