When I try to view streaming videos, I get the following error: "Quicktime is missing software required to perform this operation. Unfortunately, it is not available on the Quidktime server."
Can anyone tell me what software is required, and where I can find it?

this may seem blatantly insulting or mildly embarrassing but ... you do actually have quicktime installed on your computer right?

Thank you! Yes, I did have Quicktime installed, but it was not the most recent version. I reinstalled from the link Thili provided, and now it works.

Apple have updated QT around 4 times this year alone... one was very borked... they are 'adopting' new codex all the time, however anyone creating movies should not rely solely on everyone have the latest version, especially bespoked codex. I used an excellent codex from a good company, only to find out, whilst my 'developers' copy was free, anyone wanting to see those creations had to pay to download a viewers version, thats just bad business for us.
Also consider setting the file formats in QT preferences, checking any formats that you do not have a preferred player for. Just because SL supports QT, it doesn't support any codex etc directly, it uses a plugin to render supported codex from QT itself, much the same way as any internet browser.

Personally, I use QuickTime Alternative because I cannot stand Apple's intrusive DRM crap installed with their QT install. The developer recently (as of last month) stopped developing it, but v1.81 is still out there, and works perfectly fine with SL. Instead, the developer is putting out a stripped-down install of QT called QT Lite.
