HELP! bocthed signup/program not loading

loaded the SL app, as prompted during the basic signup, but I had to stop at that moment and never finished choosing a greeter etc. I put the dmg file on my server and tried to download the program on my home Mac and the icon just does that opening effect and that's it. So I trashed everything downloaded again and the hand icon (even in the dock) just appears to be opning put nothing pops up on sceen. the file says its SL 1_8_3_10 and I have OS 10.3.9
What's going on!?!?! How to I get back to finding a greeter? Do I have to signup again? Do I have to close account and signu again? Do I have to pay for signing up for a free membership twice?

Yes I'm having something similar, does anyone have a link w. really specific instructions on a MAC installation of SL.
