Hiyas Everyone,

I would like to play CDs on my PC and stream the audio into my parcel. I've read some things about ShoutCast and such. But it seems that all the diff server software requires the files to be formated in MP3, OOG, etc.... Is there a diff way to do this? All help will be greatly appreciated! :-)

theres different ways and software, but in the end whats going to be leaving your computer is some form of mp3/ogg stream so its going to get converted somewhere

Ahhhh... so I might as well just rip everything into MP3 and go the ShoutCast way. Seems the most proven and easiest. Thanks! :-)

I just found a way to use the Voice feature in SL to stream audio into SL without having to use a server or convert file formats. I will try this out to see how it works! :-)

The server you choose is independant of the stream source, but it will require a certain format.

For example you can use an icecast server which will take ogg input, or you could be using shoutcast which AFAIK uses mp3.

You shouldn't have to manually re-encode your audio files as the streaming source you're using should do this for you.

For example using Oddcast with Winamp, it can either stream to ogg or mp3.

Personally I'd recommend icecast over shoutcast but its mostly down to preference.

There's several companies in SL who will supply a stream to you, then all you would have to do is connect the source.

Hope this helps to clear some stuff up.

EDIT: The source should be able to work with most file types...eg I can play anything winamp supports to my icecast server, as the source will convert it to ogg on the fly.
