Classified Map Icons

Here I was talking to outworld support about a completely different matter. While doing so I had asked a friend to copy my movemets so I knew it wasn't just me when they told me that "it seemed to be working." When my friend came up with the same thing I did he mentioned to me that there are no classified icons on the map. lol really? i checked. I won't lie. I don't ever look at those. I look at lm's and people. So I mention it to support and of course I get the whole "I'm sure they are working on the issue."

Well after my original issue was resolved I went to hear a friend dj. I'm of a curious nature so I decided to ask about this to others. Has anyone else ever noticed this? (Shocker) No. Never thought to look cause they thought they were there. Now that you mention it your right? (as they check for themselves). As I'm talking to someone about this they ask if anything is said in forums. Oh good question let's check. I'm seriously shocked that there weren't more posts about this. For two reasons I'll give to you. Also, for the record I don't sell, rent or anything like that so I have no classified ads. Like I said I'm a curious kitty.

Reason:

1) After looking at how few posts there were on this I check dates of posts. How long has this been going on? I'm almost tempted to tell you to look for yourself. I won't be that mean though. Almost a year! It's listed in the known issues forum. Which if you read the description: A regularly-updated page which contains issues Linden Lab has verified as in the current release and Safe for Public. Umm almost a year...how many releases have been out?

2) Like I said I have no classified ads. There is nothing for me to gain from this thread but maybe knowing that I'm helping all of you who do. Please tell me why are you paying for classifieds? Before that 'addition' to sl became available searching in places was even easier! All you needed were key words. I still use that as my system of finding stuff for sale. Recently I started looking for a new apartment. I looked in the search for places. Many of us still do. So again why are you paying for this? You're not getting all the features that are supposed to be with it for the past year. AND it's just another search engine that really doesn't help. There are simpler ways.

My solutions?

Quite giving your $L's away to SL to not fix what they say they are. OR SL needs to start getting serious about this issue and other known issues instead of adding new content. I saw a poll recently when I logged into SL: Is your Second Life getting better or worse? Two options on this poll. I can't say it's going either way. Imo it's not gotten better or worse. It's the same thing from when i started 3 yrs ago. Ignore the broken stuff. Oh look a new chat system...

Know friends that are using classifieds? ask them these things and send them here. You all need answers!

Just tried my first classified a few days ago and Mel is right - no map icons! Also, it really serves no function or effect when using Search for "Places". Ohhh, you get more key words in the Classified tab. How many people really search there? I never did and never do. But it now really irks me to see that this never shows up on the map!

*sigh*

Needless to say, I probably won't be paying for it again until it actually works like it should and servers a useful function, besides sucking Lindens out from people.

I cannot see them either.
I only pay 50L for a classified, but that money could go toward tipping an awesome DJ.
Only reason I have one now is because I was asked to make one for the place I am getting my space.
No biggie, but seriously, whats the point if no one can see them anyway?

Exactly so why put your money into something that is not there?

oh i also just noticed something else. you know that little classified tab in your profile? there is a tp button and a map button. again why are you paying for this feature!! SL really needs to do something. Either get rid of something that's not getting fixed so people don't use it or fix it!

Does it make you wonder if you are losing sales?

Well, tbh, I never have that many sales to begin with lol.
I try, but I not as talented as some of the other designers out there.
Anyway, I am sure some of these people are spending THOUSANDS if not more to have a classified...

part of what made me start ranting about this is because i was considering of trying to design myself. I would have used this tool, spent money on it, and one day realize that i'm paying for it for nothing. The other part I have friends out there that use it. I care about them losing money. I don't think it's right.

Completely possible that a person gets no more or no less traffic with or without this tool. We might never know. Although maybe we should start a poll. For those that have been out there for a while and designing. Did you get more or less traffic a year ago? Was there really any change in traffic when the classified system was put in?

lol looking around at the old threads...this one caught my attention cause it was before it actually was released. there was such hope.

Beryl Greenacre--I wonder if the little icons for advertised locations will show up on the map as the old Sponsored Links did?

That's been disabled for close (or over) a year now due to performance reasons (it was around the time we were having big search problems and search was disabled entirely for close to a week).

If it took you a year to notice, you probably weren't using it that much in the first place .

Mel was no online much due to her RL.
But if its not working and hasn't been for over a year now, why do people still pay for it? Put thousands of Lindens into it?
That really makes no sense at all.
If they are going to search classifieds for something...wouldn't it just be smarter for everyone to save a few hundred RL dollars and just spent 50L minimum a week? Yeah it might not come up first, but just because you spent thousands on a classified, does that really mean your traffic has increased or is higher than anyone elses?

Oh snap, classifieds showed up on the map? O_o
It's hard to imagine someone clicking classified icons until they see "neko" rather than using search classifieds, isn't it?
