it can, my 6800GT does fine. What's your CPU, that's one of the more limiting factors. Also how much system memory.

I am shopping for a new video card too! I have a P-4 with 2.53 GHz and 768 mb ram.
Is the Geforce 6800 GT the right card for me? Thanks, BH |

...nivida's 6800 ultra (or GT) is great for second life, no reservations...make sure you also have plenty of system RAM, though, 1 gig or more, because SL's client is every bit as much memory bound as it is GPU bound (and CPU bound, and bandwidth bound, and praying-to-the-gods-of-stability bound
![]() ..bear in mind that SL won't perform like other popular games, even with a top-notch system...it's inherent in the nature of the beast, and tweaking client settings for optimal performance, even changing them for different environments and activities in-world, is something of an aquired art... ...i don't know very much about the 'go' mobile version of the ultra, but i understand that they're a very different line of GPUs from their desktop 'equivalents'...surely you don't have 55 gigs of RAM, perhaps you meant 1.5?.. |

The card is outstanding for use with SL, I use it myself and it works great. Of course, you need to post what sort of computer you have as it needs a good computer to take advantage of its features. Putting a 6800 ultra in an E-Machine will likely not help much it it even works.
Edit: Looks like you are considering a laptop? The 6800 go is a mobile card. Consider this, a laptop with that sort of card is not really mobile as the batteryy life is measured in minutes with the card in use plus no matter what you do, the performance in a laptop usually does not come close to what a desktop can do with equivelent specs and a desktop doesn't melt the surface it is setting on when playing SL. _____________________

my computer is a Intel pentium m 2.0 ghz 55 gb of memory with nvidia geforce go 6800 ultra card with wireless broadband. Recheck that info, please... I've never heard of anyone having 55 GB of RAM. 2 or 3 GB is considered a huge amount of RAM. I have 1.5 GB myself and have a very good SL experience. Also, wireless internet sometimes does not play nice with SL. See this SL wiki entry for more information. P2 _____________________

he's also running on a laptop which might be why he lags lol cuz he said Geforce go and a petium M processor. Which would explain alot of the lag problems. Cuz laptops are really toned down!!!!

the wireless is doubtfully a problem unless you mean wireless over like a Cell phone connection, or if your too far from the wireless router and getting a bad signal.
even the older 802.11b can get up to 11mbps, which is faster than almost all broadband connections out there. |
