ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M - does it work?

Hey on my laptop im using an ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M video card, it has the capabilities to go to 128MB for video ram which is required for Second Life, it also supports multi-texturing etc but everytime I try to open SL on my laptop, it pops up saying the video card is unsupported and then closes. Is there anyway around this? Has anyone else had this problem? THe laptop plays games like counter-strike with no problem and it even plays Battlefield 1942 with ease, so second life should work. Help?

ATI and SL tend not to play well toether anyway.

The XPress 200 is actually less powerful than the old nVidia ti 4200, even though the XPress sports better specs on paper.

The Xpress 200M works with SL, if badly. I've never encountered a problem like yours, but like Thili recommended I would try using the Omega Drivers. If you're able to get in-game, lower all the settings especially Avatar Vertex Program, and gradually increase them until you get a decent framerate and at least some quality. And, as a fellow ATI user, try not to kick yourself too much for not going with NVidia :p

I can't find the 200m omega drivers, can anyone provide me with a link. I can't even load SL to change the settings.

The omega drivers are for all ATI cards. Putting "omega drivers" in Google brings the page up as the first entry.

Omega doesn't support vista, at least not yet i don't think. Has anyone figured out some kind of workaround or hardware detection skip or whatnot? I can play the game just fine on my desktop computer but i would like to be able to login from my laptop.

I've heard around that it IS possible to run SL with the 200m but the solution descriptions are always so vague. My brother currently runs a top of the line ati card and plays SL not all that great as i expected from his card so i guess ati just doen't work all that great with SL but still i think the specs should be enough to at least get in game to chat with a couple friends.

What do you guys think is my best option if i'm running a intel duo core 1.6 ghz w/ 1.5 gig ddr2 ram and 128 dedicated 200m on vista?(other than the obvious upgrade or just play from the desktop at home or "your card is not supported give up" because like stated earlier, there are claims from ppl that say they've gotten it to run.)

ohh yea and the error message i get is "graphics card not supported or not up to date" and the drivers i have are the latest.

any thoughts/tips?
