k, here's my stats: macbook 2.2ghz duo2, 1g ram, vista running on bootcamp and sl x.19 and avg firewall/anti-virus.

what's happening: I can use sl fine, and audio streaming works but video does not. I've allowed sl and quicktime/itunes through my firewall (avg). I've disabled the firewall, setup multiple rules for it, even reset the config and nothing, the stream itself is working in vlc player ok so know it's not an issue. I would run this in osx but it's insanely slow there (not that its fast in vista -- faster). Was hoping some other resident knows why or had same problem and could help me out. Or if anybody can help get secondlife running at a reasonable rate on osx I'm game!
if you msg me in world please be patient, i may not get back to you right away
Thanks,
Kara

I've never used a Mac, but by the sounds of it, I would advise the following:
) Turn back on your firewall.
2) Go to the firewall exceptions (rules) and only allow SecondLife.exe and SLVoice to use the firewall (even your virus checker doesn't need to bypass the firewall).
3) Dump iTunes, it puts hooks into your connection, while it 'waits' for you to use it.
4) Turn off Auto updates in Quicktime, do it manually.
5) Check background services, turning off anything that relates to networking, unless you are file/printer sharing across an actual network. Especially Remote services.
6) Use a Rootkit to discover any bootstrap programmes/exploits that are 'sharing' your connection.
7) Check your Actual connection speed, don't assume you have the MB's quoted. Many are interleaved or even double interleaved. SL takes around 30-750kbps running connection, SLVoice around 500kbps-2mb of your connection. A Internet phone (plugged into your router/modem), another 2mb is reserved. Media takes between 100kbps-3mbps connection, depending on who made it (we always try and target between 100-150kbps with our movies).
8) If you are using a wireless router connection, check that you are the only one using it, no one else is 'sharing' your signal. Wireless routers are inheriently slower latencies than Ethernet connections, and don't stream media, or VIOP (voice) well.
9) Install the SP1 for Vista, it has better networking abilities.
10) Check you have the latest BIOS update for your router and drivers for your Networking card.
11) If you are hardwired between your system and the Router, make sure the Router is plugged into the first socket into the building and that you don't use telephone extension cables (if possible), use Ethernet cabling from the Router to your system (I believe the max is 20mtrs). This will increase latency efficiency.
12) In the SL client, Network tab, turn down the bandwidth slider to around 300, after everything has rezzed and before watching media.
13) Install the latest version of QuickTime.

Just a few pointers :)

Ah, so Quicktime is needed. Thanks for the answer to the question I had as well. I'll try that this evening. =)
