Hi everyone! Just to test SL ive signed up for a basic account to explore the world. I really want to buy a Premium account cuz this game is AMAZING, but... I just can play with all settings set to low and 800x600 Resolution. All Graphic features are disabled but my Performance ist still around 10 and 20 FPS. My Machine: AMD Athlon64 3200+ 1GB Ram ATI Radeon 9600XT 256VRAM DSL 1000
Whats the Problem? Can anyone post his Settings who have a similiar system? Or can anyone say how to increase the Performance?

10 - 20 FPS is normal, actually anything higher then 15 is really good. Nothing in SL goes through a prerenderer to strip out what we don't see because everything is streamed. This means our systems have to process more data. Also doesn't help that SL is almost completely dependant on system resources then it is on graphics cards when graphics cards can easily offset the load a bit more.
My specs:
AMD Anthlon XP 2600+ (1.9Ghz) 1024mb (1Gb) RAM GeForceFX 5500 256mb AGP (overclocked from [gpu speed/ram speed] 270/400 to 310/483) latest NGO Enhanced Forceware drivers 3.0Mbit ADSL
I average between 8.0 - 15.0 FPS on my machine.

Why does Linden do this? Why cant they manage the game like WoW, GuildWars or Everquest 2? It would be much more fun...

From: christian Soyinka Why does Linden do this? Why cant they manage the game like WoW, GuildWars or Everquest 2? It would be much more fun... Like Ron mentioned, it's becasue everything is streamed - those games can get away with all sorts of shortcuts and prerenders becasue nothing changes unless they want it to. SL (which is really not a game so much as it is a platform for developing 'em - with bonus chat!) is totally dynamic - the content completely user-created. Linden Lab uses a system that's not yet perfect to decide what bits you're "interested in" to cull the work that needs be done by your computer. This has appearantly been changed in these last two updates and some very subtle bug introduced - making for all these loading problems - and I suspect robbing us of a few frames per second.

Thats it pretty much in a nutshell. Nothing is static in SL. One minute I could have a giant megatropolis, the next it can become a farm. None of it was created by the game makers. And nothing we build stuff with comes prerendered like StarWars: Galaxies does with ship building. We don't have prebuilt walls, chairs, control panels, and stuff like that supplied solely by the system. Everything is made by us for us. The only thing static is the sky.
