Where do I start? But I'm majorly out of pocket....

Problem:
Purchased items (skins)

Money left in game, items in inventory. As per normal.

Put on the skin, as in ai "wore" it.

Wandered around a bit. talked to people. had other saying "wow anci - that skinooks good on you"

Crashed. Logged back on. Was wearing the skin previous to the one I purcahased. Looked in inventory - EVERYTHING i had purchased was gone. But my money situation online wtill showed I had purchased items.

Cleared cache. Relogged several times. reinstalled. nup - they are gone.

Result:
Lost $4000L and nothing to show for it.

Plus I don't have a clue who to contact to get my money back - this was all I had for the next three months and I splashed out on skins because its been the one thing I've been lookinf forward to.

Anyone got any fixes???

I'm so sorry to hear that, anci. I read on the blog that there were inventory problems last night on SL. I'm not sure if this will help, I've personally never had to try it, but I've read on the forums numerous times that people say to clear your cache several times and re-log each time. I've also read that about 6 times of clearing cache seems to be the magic number. If that doesn't work, try contacting the creator or seller of the skin. It would be in your account transaction history that you had paid for the skin, and if there were problems inworld, the vendor may be able to give you a new skin. If you remember where you bought it, you can go to the store and click on "edit" on the items and find the creator or seller. Good luck, and I hope that one of these things work for you, or someone else has another answer that might help, if this one doesn't.

It is sometimes possible to find things by using the File options on the Inventory. If you open up Show Filters, you get a window with options for "Hours ago" and "Days ago" at the bottom. It could be worth taking yourself somewhere quiet in world and trying to go back to the time when you were wearing the inventory item, or had just bought it and it was in your Recent Items tab. - Assuming you haven't already tried this.

Otherwise I second the suggestion of clearing cache and relogging several times. Good Luck!

Since skins are usually no transfer, the seller may not object to giving you a replacement. If in your situation, I would inquire about that (but nicely, since it's SL and not them who messed up). You probably won't be able to get a refund though.
