Ok so about 3 months or so ago sl stopped working for me and the lindens said that it had to with my video card, so i have decided to buy a new laptop with the correct one seeing as how since then this one hasnt been performing well in any type of task that i need it to. The one major issue im having is that i have no idea as to what type of video card i should be looking for, as in i dont know what types are better and would benefit me more so if someone could explain what the difference between a 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7900 GS and a 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7950 GTX is and which one would be better for sl that would be great.

thanx

Go there and you can compare the differences in cards :)

Any nVidia card with a number above 7600 will be fine. However, the higher the number, the better it will be, but you might not really be able to tell the diff between 25 fps and 35 fps. The latest and greatest are in the 8xxx range.

Laptops often come with a special GO version, which is not identical to the non-GO version.

In a laptop, *heat* is a problem. The graphics card does a lot of work, and this makes heat. Most laptops running SL cannot be kept on your lap without a heat shield. Don't put them on any soft surface, for that matter.
