Sorry if this has been covered before--I searched, but didn't see it mentioned, so I figured I'd go ahead and ask.
My system is running windows XP (with service pack 2 and all that jazz) and has an NVidia GeForce 4 card (MX) ...Last night, I went to the NVidia website and got the latest drivers for it, since I hadn't done that in a while, and now my SL login screen is flat black.
No characters, no buttons, no graphics displaying. I can log in (I know where the button is even if I can't see it), and everything seems to display properly, but for the first few minutes, my av is also flat black and clothing textures won't display.
I've tried: Flushing cache, having my client re-check graphic software on login a couple of times, and neither of those fixed the problem, so... is there a fix, other than rolling back the drivers for my card?

Thankyouthankyou. Well, I've solved it for the moment by rolling back the drivers... one of these days, I'll get a new system and not have so many issues, hopefully, but thank you for answering.

Ya I was gonna suggest you go back to an older driver. I had the same issue, it was like I couldn't see lights and darks right in SL. Blacks had no definition and all lighting was off. Just put the old drivers back today and voila, things look normal again.
