Video Peformance Bad in SL / Fine Outside

We are supporting a college class meeting in SL where a longish QT video was to be shown (maybe 50 minutes) for a group of 5-8 avatars. Reports were some got no audio, some got no video, some say 1/3 when the video spontaneously restarted. The users were all able to watch the video without these issues going directly to the video URL in a browser.

Are there other issues (rendering the video on a surface) that would degrade the performance in world? Are there issues with longer videos than shorter ones?

I'm a bit lost about where to even diagnose.

QuickTime has been a misfeature and plagued by bugs since it was introduced. Practically, you'd be best off forgetting that SL pretends to handle streaming video and use an external app (e.g. QuickTime Player).

Please, I expect this to generate a bunch of responses of the form: "works fine for me". Try doing a stint on Live Help before generalizing from your case to the population. Incidentally, it works fine for me, too.

hah no quicktime streaming to SL is a fast way to crash the client , change diffrent streams abit youll end up staring at desktop.

Streaming to SL client -.o never been any good, not to mention you have to reinstall 235930 times sometimes to get it to work, never bother watching much ingame anymore, long streams rare, alot of short but repeating streams tho, get boring fast.

was it 1.6 that introduced video of was taht 1.7? Nomatter..QT is as one person said is so bugged its not funny. At the start of this new feature was nothing but crashs after crashes.
Remeber "VIDEO LINDEN"..........Well as times pasted things has become more stable and useful. But still bugged and totally useless for some.
