I emailed this issue yesterday and have received no reply so am posting here. I joined yesterday with a premium membership paid in advance by the quarter. Then went on to purchase $50USD for conversion to your game currency. When I attempted to utilize this currency with a transfer to SL Exchange of $8000 for purchases to outfit my avatar, your API declared me a risk and subsequently caused them to void the transaction.
Please explain to me how I am a risk when you have my RL funds, what is necessary to free my funds so that I can play the game with funds that have been taken from my RL banking accounts. If it is not possible to spend the monies that you are holding, perhaps you should recredit them to my charge card. Please advise.

I fail to see why you are posting this in the Tech Forum? I would think it is a case for Linden Answers , they never seem to come here so I don't think you will find answers here.

Finding SL VERY frustrating
12-29-2006 22:15
Only just joined and probably will give up never to return - have used much similar software with no problems but with SL:
1. Even the forums are not intuitive - no idea how to post a new thread hence having to put this here as a reply . "New posts" doesn't help me and none of the faq do either.
2. When I start and try to edit appearance I have no success at all in ending up wearing anything that looks like the "free" outfits that we are handed at the beginning. I try following the instructions precisely but with no joy. No one else around also seems to look right - could be graphics card but I doubt it (new laptop handling new games software with ease eg halflife Wow etc) and I can move around etc with no problems.
Grateful for any advice or if others have similar problems but have a feeling I will get no help which will just leave me with the same poor impression of SL.
Just all seems very poor so glad I have not spent any money on it!!!

Personally I started with a counting frame before moving to computers.

Well Alexis, Marmite pretty well summed up why the post was made here. I will repost this in the other subject thread. The second observation is that there is no intuitive system is correct. There is no "billing or account" issues thread, and the email form has not led to a response in the past two days. SL Exchange was good enough to reply and explain their actions in my matter. With the exception of Foolish Frost's "unofficial" guide to SL, there seems to be no cohesive, general manual or guide listed for one to review. If there is, it has not been linked in a manner that steers the newcomer to its placement.
A lot of complaining is done concerning technical issues. When one considers the scope of this project, much of what happens is an expected and normal outcome. Many small concerns are undercapitalized, understaffed, and stretched to match software development to hardware prowess and capacity. The greatest deficit seems to reside in the business models which overmarket and sell capacity and feel that customer relations can be effectively handled by technologists. This all seems to be another fairly predictable artifact of marketing to develop a product that seeks investment. Oh well.

I'm not entirely clear where your money is... US$ showing as a US dollar balance on your account? However, there is an explanation of restrictions here: https://secondlife.com/currency/describe-limits.phpWhat happens if you try and buy 1US$ of L$... 2US$... 10US$? Maybe you've simply exceeded the 0 to 6 days, New Resident, limit - which is US$50. If you have actual L$ showing in the top right of your screen and these won't transfer to SLEX then I have no clue as to what is happening. HTH

Pale, the issue is not purchase, ($50 was spent as per the new member limits), or the L$ amount that shows as available in the SLGUI. SL evidently has something called a "Risk API" that controls transfers and exchanges. I attempted two transfers at an SL Exchange terminal inworld. The first went through for L$10. I did not really want to do that amount, but this is what the software interpreted a L$10,000 transfer to mean.
The second went through, deducted L$8000 from my SL account, and I thought that I would be able to purchase accessories through SLexchange. Nope. Attempting a purchase resulted in an "insufficient balance" notice, and a hold was on the monies per the Risk API from SL. Now this rots for several reasons. Some items are only available through a vendor's listings on SLexchange website. Second, it is much easier to browse for accessories on a page than inworld, expecially for someone who is just starting out, has limited navigation skills, and does not have forever to wander from store to store.
The workaround would seem to purchase L$ directly from SL Exchange and then spend with registered vendors. But, I had already spent my allocated budget on membership and credits in SL itself, and came to find that the Risk flag prevented me from any transactions at the third party vendor... Looks like a lot of bugs left to work out within the player business levels... SL Exchange ended up returning the transfered monies to the regular SL account. Hardly a service to them or the vendors attempting to market goods here.

They were bought directly from Second Life (Linden Labs), on the website. I first paid for a Premium Membership, then bought L$. My RL banking Mastercard debit account was charged immediately for both, so I am at a loss as to why their API declares a risk. At first I thought that it might be a 6 day thing, but this makes no sense in light of others not having a similar issue upon registration and purchase.
