Try using a asus9999 agp (gf6800gt) asus enchanted driver 115 (higher) :: Enchanted asus drivers Smartdoc 471 (and higher) :: Temp controll software for asus will lead to either of these ; Generetic video card reported , not supported Pci / non OpenGL supported card (something something) bug reported it awhile ago, this is my mom's computer, and i tried to figure out why i couldnt log in on SL on it,, Reported, with directXdiag info,, It works a few times then SL just simply gives up trying to autodetect it.

Have you tried the latest "Forceware" drivers directly from nVidia? I also have a Asus brand video card and have found the the asus drivers really suck and are not updated as often as the base drivers directly from nVidia.

So does it just happen when you run SmartDoc as well, or is it just when running the Asus drivers? Gazz is right, Asus' drivers kind of suck. It's especially annoying when their video cards have extra hardware on them and you can't use it with the official nVidia drivers.

I am wondering if the OpenGL2.0 cards like the GF6800gt are having problems with the 1.5 version SL uses. Seems a lot of odd problems occuring with the newer cards. My 6600 gt has been flawless but it is OpenGL 1.5.

My 6600 gt has been flawless but it is OpenGL 1.5. It may or may not be true now, opengl 2.0 was only enabled with the latest drivers from the nvidia site version 77.72, the only problem i may be seeing so far is that if i set anti aliasing on, either using a profile or changing the setting on the nvidia settings taskbar, as secondlife doesnt support the application controlled setting of this. but if i set this for some time the application will crash, but as these are first release drivers 2.0 drivers its hard to tell if its driver or an sl problem.

Duh... you say It only hurts when I do this. So don't do that! I know... I know... You need to keep constant watch over your video card temperature, one degree too hot and BLAMO! BSOD

I'm running a 6800 Go with the latest 77's, and I haven't run into this myself... we have two PCI Express 6800 Ultras here at Support as well. Have you tried the Troubleshooting slider? Details here: http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=TechGDIGeneric

Im pretty sure i can make SL do that error if i install the Asus enchanted drivers / Asus smartdoc - used for monitoring temp/fan speed. I tried that slider to, did nothing. Currently running 77.72 nvidia drivers, no fan/temp drivers, SL start every time. Note i play some other games none of them had issues with the drivers i usually use ;p figure SL would quirk on it.

I know this is off-topic, but don't you mean "enhanced", not "enchanted"? They mean two completely different things. =P

Hmmm, I have latest drivers from Nvidia on my 6800 Ultra and the driver has a temperature monitoring function built in with a temp threshold you can set to slow down the card and let it cool. Could these other applications cause a conflict with the driver version? Could it be the applications accessing the driver while the game is running cause errors?
