Release notes mention that this viewer "Added CPU detection for Intel Core Duo/Solo and Intel Core 2 Duo", and I'm tempted to believe that means no more than what it literally says; are there CMP code optimizations now, or does it just mean the CPUID tables are now current enough to return the proper name (for what? Crashlogs?)? I certainly hope SL is going to make use of more threads when it sees it has SMP/CMP to work with. -- On another note, what's all this about vector operations in the settings now? I don't understand the term as it's applied in this context, aren't vector operations the underpinning of 3D apps in general?
Oh, and while I have the attention, does anyone have an easy way to go about restoring the UI windows to a pre-Voice state? Specifically the Chat History window, without having to tear off and spawn instances for IMs and the like, and getting rid of the little volume tab...

As far as i know its just that the client can "see" now which CPU your PC uses. I read though that there were some Core Duo2 issues the client had. If the CPU gets propperly detected now, those issues could be adressed. To fully use both cores of a dualcore CPU theres an option at the advanced client settings, running SL in two threads (advanced client options can be enabled by pressing ctrl+alt+d).
About the vectorization.... sorry, cant help you with that one ^^;
I too would like to see the UI being reverted to the pre-voice state. Others do as well and theyre working on modifying the sourcecode to get the chat floaters back to how they were. And that seems to be the only way, unless the lindens decide to add an option to switch between both chat-floater options: Editing the sourcecode.

Yeah, while I'm in complaint mode, as much as people stand to benefit from modded code viewers, it woudl be really nice if they could take the small step of offering pre-compiled executable installer releases instead of making everyone download all manner of (for most folks) otherwise useless software and go through the build process themselves, which, as comfortable as I am with most aspects of the machine, is still something that makes me very uncomfortable, even when I'm just following their (very spare) instructions. If you want an open-source endeavour (especailly as an extension of an unmanaged, dumb distro of a popular and buggy app) to benefit anyone but developers and *nixers, you have to avoid making steps in the end-user experience like setting global variables. Hell, I'll even go so far as to say keep them out of console totally; for better or worse that's a really alien place for the vast majority of users to be these days.
